Hi all,
Well after days of trying to induce spontaneous labour with natural methods it finally happened on 17/8/05. Harpah Rose was born at 8.50pm, weighed 8 pound 14 ounces and was 53 cm long. Absolutely beautiful.
My contractions were very mild from 3 am that day, I was able to sleep through them. Then bout 1pm it was all happening, lasting about 40-60 secs 4 mins between each. It was my mission to stay at home as long as I could and so I did. Told my partner to go to work in the morning and he came home about 11am. At 2pm I decided enough was enough and off we went. Called midwife and on walking through the birthing unit doors spewed my guts up, midwife promptly replied with "oh thats a good sign". Upon examination I was 5 cm dilated and had a great big buldging membrane hanging down, unbroken. We were stoked!!!! Into the bath I went and didn't move for hours when my waters broke like a jet stream. Then the urge to push was unstoppable and had to get out. After some long pushing I gave birth to Harpah on a birth ball. I sat on the toilet for a while as it helped me push and I went with gravity. We were all very happy as we stuck to our plan of hoping to keep the birth intervention free and we did. No pain relief at all. And no tearing! I did have more post partum bleeding than usual so they had to do an examination on me after birth. Very uncomfortable and a little scary as they couldn't stop it at one point. But all worked out fine.
So enough rambling from me had to tell my story, at home now with my girl and taking each day one at a time. Can't wait to hear some more birth stories.
