Roar has the runs.. we were spared the "newborn pooplosions" and this seems to be our payback..

She had a mandarin on Monday, and the Runs started that day.. but can one piece of fruit cause this many days of diarrhea???? Seriously?????

She seems a bit out of sorts, sleepier, and not as hungry, but no temp.. - just not sure really.. Other than that it REEKS!!!! and is like water and is giving her a really nasty rash :(

Could it still be the fruit? 2 yr old molars? or could she be a bit sick?

Hmm... Well it could be food intolerance. As a baby/kid/teenager I was and still may be allergic to oranges. Within 4 hours I would have the runs really badly. I couldn't have much fruit either as I am sucrose intolerant. But it could also be gastro. Maybe take a trip to the doctor and see how you go from there. Good luck :)

Its a long time for an allergy! Have you tried giving her an antihistamine to see if it eases it?

Its more likely to be something else IMO. Are you able to keep her fluids up? Is there any vomiting?

She has had polaramine on the Wed as she got bitten up by Mozzies and she reacts badly to them.. (no change in stool)

Had a friend who does FDC over and she said, "NOT NORMAL" reeks and seems like rotavirus.. (but having never seen it have no idea)

No vomiting, but off her food (which to Roar is like her primary focus usually) She is happy to drink thou.. but Screams as soon as she wee's or Poo's :( (cause of rash I think)

Stupid Rural town no chance of Dr App till 3pm Monday :(:(

I would take her to see someone today. She shouldn't be in that much pain and neither should have lasted this long. She may have an infection in her bladder or something

Thank you:hugs: I tend to agree but was not sure if I was overreacting.. will pop down to ER with the "no places available" tickets from the Dr's and see how we go, I just hope they can at least make her more comfortable - and make sure it's nothing too sinister..

I hope she's ok. My ds gets loose stools from some fruit, but it lasts no more than 24 hours. In fact we treat his constipation with fruit like pears and it works a treat. Definitely doesn't last that long though. Sounds like an infection, but even for gastro it's pretty long. If she was otherwise perfectly well I'd still say see a doctor, but as she's not 100% a check up is a good idea. Children can get dehydrated so easily.

I'd get a stool sample done for campylobacter (sp) nasty gastro bug you get primarily from chicken that causes tummy cramps and stinky diarrhoea for weeks.

E.coli :(:( She was sent home with fluids and seemed to pick up a little then refused all fluids and her temp spiked and the dioreah became worse.. (and that has caused other issues with the bacteria being in contact with weeping sores in her nappy area)

Finally got results from Stool smaple called in, though we were already on our way to hospi again.

ATM seems not washing the Vegetables/fruit properly may be the cause.. But could have also been Pool or Meat and the grandparents or just off a trolley or something else she has touched.

She will be admitted today to be monitored and any treatment given I guess (I don't know much about E.Coli.. only that the PED said on the phone you are VERY lucky she is not sicker.. we don't want her sicker so bring her in)

Glad she will hopefully be out of pain soon.. (has lost almost 6kg.. she was a big girl, but that is still a heck of a weight loss in a week :()

Quietly worried, though also quietly grateful that it was picked up at all..

Goodness, your poor little girl. So glad you have gotten to the bottom of it, and hope she is feeling much better soon. :hugs:6 kilos is an awful lot to lose, the poor darling, I can only imagine how sick and yuck she must have been feeling. Certainly makes you think about all of the nasties out there. Lots and lots of :hugs: and best wishes for a speedy recovery :hugs:

Oh no :hugs: I had wondered how you went. How horrid!. E.Coli is pretty scary stuff!
I worry a lot about food hygiene like salmonella and e.coli particularly with handling

How is it spread?

The E. coli 0157:H7 bacteria can be found in a some cattle farms, and can live in the gut of healthy animals.
The bacteria can get onto the meat during slaughter, and then can become mixed into the meat when it is minced (ground).
Meat which has the E coli germ in it smells and looks normal, so you can't tell that it is unsafe to eat from the appearance or smell.
Eating meat, especially minced meat that has not been thoroughly cooked enough to kill E. coli 0157:H7, can make people ill.
Other foods that can be affected include dry cured (uncooked) sausage (eg salami), alfalfa sprouts, lettuce, unpasteurised milk (the germ can get onto the udders of cows), undercooked beef, and unpasteurised fruit juice.
People can also get the infection from swimming in water that has been in contact with sewerage.
The bacteria can also be spread during contact with farm animals, including farm zoos.
Bacteria from an infected person can be passed from one person to another if hygiene and handwashing is not good enough. This is a risk for young children who are not yet toilet trained (eg in a child care centre).
Research into prevention methods during slaughter and mincing of meat is being done.
