Well I went in on Wednesday night as planned (I was getting induced) and had an internal to check to see what was going on before they put the gel in. I was hooked up to the monitors so they could watch bubs heart rate and any contractions I was having and the nurse realised I was having regular contractions - even though I was feeling no pain. She did the internal and realised I was 4cm dilated and that my waters were ready to burst. She rang my doc and he said not to go ahead with the induction (thank goodness) and he will break my waters early the next morning. The nurse gave me sleeping tablets and told me to sleep.
I woke up early the next morning when the doc came in.. he broke my waters at 7:15am (the nurse was a lot better at the internals than the obst!!!) and things started from there. I rang hubby at 7:45am and told him to come in (took him less than 5 mins to get there) to the hospital and the nurse took me to the birthing suite.
I was again hooked up to monitors because bubs decided she wanted to be watched the whole time (she was sleeping too much and not being very active)although the doc wasn’t concerned he said I had to be monitored which meant no natural drug free birth for me as I was confined to the bed for the whole birth.
Bubs wanted to be a little more difficult and decided she was going to go posterior. So i as well as not being able to get off the bed i had all the contraction pain in my back... I was sucking on that gas so hard but nothing seemed to be working.
The midwives talked to me about having an epi as the anethesist was in the hospital and could do it straight away. I decided since I was on my back and the pain was almost unbearable that I would have the epi. I had the epi and it worked really quickly! it was pure heaven... I went from being very upset, crying and hysterical to laughing with hubby and the midwives and watching TV. About 9am an hour after having the epidural I felt the urge to push. I asked the midwife how long it will be before I am in the transitional stage of labour and she said 'oh it wont be for a few hours yet' I was like 'oh ok well i am getting the urge to push' so she checked me out and bubs head was right there! The midwife is like 'I think I might just call the doctor!'
So we discovered I was in the second stage and ready to push so the midwives got everything ready and I started pushing at 9:30am. They asked me if I wanted a mirror and I said no.. until about 5mins later the nurse said 'I am going to get it anyway.. just so you know where to push'. I am very glad she did it now cause I got to see the whole birth. At around 10:10am the obst came in and checked me out.. he said I was starting to tear inside so he was going to give me an episiotomy.
Laylah Jade was born at 10:17pm (only a 3 hour labour - :smiliedance: ) happy and healthy. 7 pounds 2 ounces, 52 cm long and 34 cm head.
Sorry it was alittle long! :D
