we may be moving if dh gets his transfer, and i'll be almost ready to have the baby... so i'll need to find an ob, and would love to hear about the maternity unit and experiences also if i can have a water birth there or not...
any info on community and life as well would be handy..
i'd be more likely to move to red cliffs, as im a small town girl and love them;)
cheers
I've lived in Mildura and I hated it. I lived tehre for 18 months while I worked on the NSW side of the border teaching children from an Aborignal mission. If it wasn't for the experience of such closed-minded, unwelcoming, and very unfriendly people in that town, I would still be out there working with those kids as I loved my job so much there, but couldn't live in a town like that.

We lived here for 12 months when DH first started teaching, although he was teaching the aboriginal community in the opposite direction to yours ;)
Theres lots of sport to do if your into sports. Properties are a good price. Medical service was a nightmare. Most decent doctors have closed books and there wasn't a paed in town. When DS got really sick we use to take him over the border because then we would be moved to Adelaide instead of Melbourne
Red Cliffs' houses were a little too old for my liking. There was no way no how I would live in a fibro house during a Mildura winter or summer  Winter is bitterly cold. Sun goes down before 5pm and doesn't come up until 7am. In summer the sun was up until 9pm.
Beyond the many things one of the things I hated most was beyond Broken Hill there wasn't places to go for a day trip. Swan Hill's not far but smaller than Mildura. Renmark was ok but quiet. They however have since opened a new shopping centre that includes a Big W.
Work options were pretty limited unless you wanted to pick fruit with the tourists on work visas or work in a restaurant.
Hope that helps

My 6mo DS was born in South Australia, so I can't help you out there. My little family are moving to Mildura in the next month for DP's work... he also grew up there and has his three sisters and all of DS's nieces and nephews there as well. Unfortunately they are all a few years older than DS, so I am looking for other Mums with bubs in this area as well. My DP has his mates here, but most of them are single men or if in couples, have no kids. Would love to talk to other Mums in this area.:australia-flag-06::detective:

We are not all like that ;)
I've lived in Mildura since birth, only moving away for 2 years before returning to the area. I wouldn't live anywhere else. Everything I need is here, except maybe a decent paed.
But to each their own, I suspect I am very biased due to my upbringing here :D
Also growing up here since birth, I have never moved and will be proud to bring my baby up in Mildura. I have never had trouble with the people and have always found I have everything I need :)
I LOVE mildura :)

Ahh but you both are FROM Mildura not newcomers to Mildura ;)
