View Full Version : Schizophrenic from Birth: Story on 60 Minutes
Did anyone see the story about the children born with schizophrenia on Sunday?
I was shocked, I had no idea people had signs of it from birth.
they had footage of the baby watching things that were not in the room
Those poor kids. I cannot find the transcript, I wish I could as I am sure many would like to watch it.
ok found out it was on ABC not 60 mins  duh
here is a clip of part of the documentary.

We saw it too...very interesting!
Puts life back into perspective that's for sure
I can't imagine what those poor parents go through on a daily basis. I take my hat off to them!
I saw a story on this on Oprah last year I think it was. It was so scary! The poor little girl. The parents have a son too and they have to take in turns living in separate apartments so the girl doesn't hurt her baby brother.
It would be so stressful :(

Wow, poor girl and family. But they did look like they were working on it. And she had their support.
Wow. I missed it but just watched the clip.
How scary would that have been for her mum.
I had no idea that you could show signs from birth either...
Um, excuse my ignorance, but where abouts is the clip?

I watched a bit of the show
the bit where the bub was looking at things... isnt that what everyones bub does??? they cant really focus that well at that age.
in my 6 years at the kids hospy I have looked after 1 teenager with extreeme mania but never full on schzophrenia.
Part of me thinks gee maybe they did have schzophrenia but the other thinks behavioural and the parents where fueling their thoughts.

I also thought it was weird when they said the baby was staring at things.... my little man does that all the time!!
My mother has schizophenia and has been in & out of hospital for it ever since she was 16, i've never seen or heard of very young children having it very strange.

I think most teenagers usually show signs at puberty....I think the boy I looked after was about 15ish... it was unbelievable but sad. his family got nooooooooooo sleep and where just lost.

Here you go :)
I am embarrassed to say I was kind of hoping perhaps she was possessed rather than szhizophrenic. then at least the poor child could have some hope. :o:o
I find it absolutely tragic. Having schizophrenic people in my family, I am terrified of going 'crazy'. i couldnt imagine how dreadful it would be to live a whole life that way. :gloomy:
Oprah did a show on the little girl featured on 60 minutes called Jenna.
The 60 minutes show only showed part of it but if you watch the full length Oprah show on her it will open your eyes a little more
The parents of that little girl have to live in 2 separate units in the same apartment block because they cannot have Jenna and the baby brother (sorry forgot his name) in the same home at night for fear that Jenna will kill him.
Maybe youtube the subject and Oprah and it may come up, very interesting and a lot more in depth than 60 mins was

DP and I watched it and it was quite worrying,
It was scary when the little girl said she wanted to chop her mums head of and she all her pipes.
She is the scariest little girl I have ever seen.
and as for the little girl that wants to kill her brother, I might get some criticism about this but I could not have her in my house.
I know they are just children but their parents cant deal with it, they should be in wards.

She sounds like a psychopath, not a schizophrenic.
I'm sceptical of the whole premise.

I agree. It was disturbing viewing. There's something very wrong with that little girl but I'm sceptical that's its schizophrenia.

I think that of course its possible for children to have signs of this from an early age. The brain is a VERY complex thing...
