I caught a piece in the news in the last day or so about a mother in the Solomon Islands who had given birth to the nation's first set of quads. All were healthy and mother was well - they took her family to 10 children from memory. The doctor who was looking after her reported that once her breastfeeding was established she would be heading back to her village.
My first reaction was that it was great it was naturally assumed that she would breast-feed and my second was a flashback to growing up in a similar part of the world where formula wasn't heard of and where breastfeeding was a very public norm (in fact most women in their village environment went topless most of the time so kids has very easy access to their mother's breasts). I was quite heartened to be reminded that there are places in the world where breastfeeding is still considered to be the norm and is supported and encouraged by the whole community, and wanted to share this nice story!
