Is anyone going to Brissie's Ekka this year? I was thinking about it, but saw the prices of the showbags alone this year and went  Holy dooley... no way.
I'd prolly just catch a cold there anyway.
Does anyone remember the days of the 50c and $1 bags???

given that you are pregnant and don't have kids yet this probably won't interest you this year BUT on the pupil free day we go to dreamworld or movieworld. There is hardly anyone there and so you don't queue for any of the rides, especially the kids rides. Unlike the ekka, the cost of the rides is covered in the entry fee and so it doesn't matter how many rides the kids have. We take our own lunch and snacks. The adults are mostly at work because its not actually a public holiday (kids get two days off school, adults get one day off work).
Yep Im going, can't wait.:smiliedance:
I always went to the Ekka every year without fail when I was a kid & I want DD to go too.
Considering the price of entry though I doubt I will be going on more than two rides & Ill probably only buy a couple of the cheap show bags just for the novelty of it. I do hope they still have those yummy strawberry icecreams:rolleyes:

I'm going to the Ekka...going to take Chanel and let her go on some pathetic ride and let her look at the cows and pat the baby animals...okay, the baby animals thing is purely for me!
I probably won't buy a showbag...they're always full of junk. I might though...you never know.
I've never been one for show rides though...portable rides freak me out. They always look so run-down...and as if they're going to break. I particularly hate all the "clunk clunk...creeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak" noises they make...scary!
I might have a go at sideshow alley (never win anything decent...but it's kinda fun).
I'll probably buy DD a bit of cheap junk...I'll even buy her an ice-cream and let her go for her life!

No we won't be going, far too expensive for us.
Do I remember 50c and $1 showbags, heck I'm so old I can remember free sample bags, lol
If you buy your tickets at the RACQ they give a 15% discount and are apparently give some vouchers for rides and food outlets although I don't exactly know if these are just discounts and which ones are included.
nah we aint going, dh hated it last year, said it was dirty and dusty and fluey:eek:
and he doesnt want to spend all his money on the **** they put in them bags.
We went last year and it was sooooo expensive. Yes I remember the cheap showbags. They still have the bertie beetle bag though... My favorite, but it is now $2

We are going this Saturday. I took DD last year, DP wasnt with us so it will be good to go as a family this year. I never really got to go to the ekka much as a kid we always went to dreamworld or movieworld or something like that while the ekka was on but there was 6 of us kids imagine trying to pay for all of us at the ekka  It will be good this year as DD is older & can go on some of the rides & see the animals. Wont be spending as much money this year as i cant go on the rides & DP is scared of rides  plus we think all the showbags are ****! We will only be getting one or two for bubs and one for ourselves.
Is anyone staying for the fireworks?
As I kid I went to the Ekka most years and yes I do remember free show bags as well as the 50c/$1 bags. I loved the dodgem cars, sideshow alley (you know the clowns with their heads turning and you put the balls in their mouth), some of the scarey rides, eating fairyfloss, & strawberry icecreams plus showbags!!
I haven't been now for over 13yrs, and won't be going this year. The Ekka holiday is my DD's 1st birthday happybirthday , so we're having her party that day:smiliedance: . I might wait til she's a big older and may go next year!! I would love her to see the baby animals.
As an aside - I heard that the animals are artifically inseminated so that there are baby animals born every day of the Ekka!!Weird huh

OMG that is soo weird. Where did you here that? I wonder who came up with that idea in the first place:rolleyes: & if it works (I thought animals where like us & a due date would just be like an estimate.)
My DD was also born during the Ekka period last year, but hers was a natural conception ;)
Someone I know who lived on a farm and their dad's role was to do the insemination, timing it so the little lambs etc would be born in mid August. I had never thought about it before and also thought it was quite weird!!
Aijent - your immaculate conception made me laugh , as a kid/teenager I always used to joke that I was born from an immaculate conception, but that was due to the fact that I couldn't contemplate the idea of my parents having sex  ew!!
i love the ekka, not going this year but next year when little chels is about one i hope to take her and buy a showbag or two and i love the baby animals so now i can do all the little kid things again without looking like a geek lol
ps: darrall lea show is the best

I've never been to the Ekka :o
August is a traditionally poor time in this household.
I went yesterday, it was SOO fun. DD played the clowns & won some bubble blowing set (she looked so cute) & I won a BIG care bear. I was stoked because I'd never won one of the big prizes before.:D
I got DD a Hi5 showbag, I think it was pretty good value really & I was even a bit naughty & let her have a taste of one of my strawberry ice creams:shame: :p

We went to the ekka on Saturday and oh god i am not going next year. Came home with sore ankles, sore feet, sore legs & very frustrated from being run into from everyone there. It was so crowded. DD went on 7 rides though & got a few show bags, she loved it. Next year I think DP can take her as its all too much for me now. Maybe only cause I am preggie though :o
I didnt go this year, but a friend picked up a thomas the tank engine bag for DS:thumbsup:
Pretty good for the price.
We will be taking DS next year though, think he will get a kick out of the animals.
Capalaba Cental Shopping Centre is having an "Ekka Day Sale" on wednesday. They are having free mcdonalds icecreams, jumping castle, baby animals, fairy floss, 50c and $1 show bags and more. I guess if you are in the area it would be a much cheaper and easier alternative - espically for the younger ones!
There will be another Ekka fun day on the oval at Enoggera state school. There will be a few kiddie rides, food & a few other things it goes from 10:00 till 2:00.
