When is it safe to introduce a sleep aid (like a cuddle rug or a soft toy) to my baby's cot? From next week he's going to be spending days at grandparent's place and childcare and I am worried about how he will sleep. It would be nice if he had something consistent that he could cuddle but I'm worried about safety.

I couldn't find any info on this on the SIDS and KIDs website. I remember reading in one of my baby books it recommended to introduce one at about 6 months but I can't find it again.

I experimented a couple of weeks ago by putting a terry towel nappy in with him (he seems to love cuddling these) but he really likes putting them over his face. When I went back in it had gone over his face and kinda twisted round his neck. :dizzy: So won't be doing that again!! But I'm wondering if a soft toy or something might be okay? Maybe one of those weird little blankies with a soft toy head on it (specially made for sleep cuddles)?

I introduced a knitted bunny at about 4 - 5 months. It is soft and has lots of holes. He loves it and I've had no problems. DS is 9 months now.

Yep same here - about 4-5 months with both my boys. They are STILL in love with their teddies (and DS1 is 4yrs old :p)

How old is you DS?? When my bub's were under 4 months I would tie the same teddy to the edge of the cot so they got the sleep association but couldn't be 'harmed' by their teddy. When they got to the age when they wanted to cuddle or hug something to soothe them, I just untied it. Works wonderfully!!

Good luck (I think there is nothing cuter than a bub and their loving teddy :goodvibes:)

My DS sleeps with a old cloth nappy (was used as a spew rag) has since he was a week old. DS was admitted into hospy at a week old and the nurse who was looking after him was old school, she asked us for a clean cloth nappy she rolled it up and put it around his head and he snuggled into. From that night on it was the only way he would sleep. He had to sleep with the towel up against his face. I was a little worried about this at first and always checked on him.

My DD is 11wks old and one night she was unsettled about 2 weeks ago so we did the same thing to her, she loves to snuggle her face into it as well i have a angelcare monitor and i always check on her as well. So far i have found she sleeps alot better and longer.

i know this isn't everyones choice but it worked well for my kiddies. I hope you find something that works well for yours
