Hi IVFer's

I am about to undergo IVF in the hopes of producing some eggs for a friend.

As I have never had to undergo this sort of procedure before, I would like to know what is in store for me? I know the basics such as bloating, headaches, mood swings etc. But I'd like to hear some real stories.

Any stories, good or bad. Thanks girls!

Hi Angeldoula,

Firstly, just to let you know what a wonderful person you are to be doing this for your friend.
I have done 2 cycles and I have to tell you that I have been one of the very lucky ones who had really no side effects to whinge about. As you said, the bloating is a definite one. Tiredness was another but that would be nothing to you as a busy mum!
It really does depend on what type of protocol you get put on ( ie what type of medication) and the dosage.I know syranel has given a lot of people some irritation but my protocol didnt involve that.
The egg pick up can be a little bit sore but panadeine is our friend in these cases and is safe to use.

Good luck to you and your friend. Your children are your blessing and I hope your friend realises that you are her blessing.

Take Care
Donna

Hi there:wave: , you are doing such a wonderful thing for your friend, just wanted to let you know!

I had a few side effects. The injections gave me a bruised bum and thighs, LOL, had a few headaches daily. The synarel spray gave me moodiness, headaches, tiredness, bloating and sometimes I felt really flushed.

After EPU, tired, drowsy, bloated a bit sore in the tummy and my body felt bruised. Had some hyperstimulation. Hope it helps a little.

Im sure everything will be fine for you hun, you sound like such a wonderful person:hugs: , please let us know how you go.:)

Hi Angeldoula.

As Tonysgirl said, it is a beautiful thing that you're doing for your friend.
Like any drug, everyone reacts differently. My first attempt went pretty well, the only side effect being the bloating. That's unavoidable, but was worse for me as they had given me too high a dose of Puregon. The synarel wasn't a problem at all, except that it tasted disgusting (yes, it does go up the nose but tends to drip down the throat) So I felt pretty yuk as far as the bloating was concerned. I'd overstimulated and had to cancel the pick up. No problems with headaches or mood swings etc.

Second time my body went a bit beserk, possibly because all those synthetic hormones were still in my body and they were pumping me with more. I hadn't taken the pill for over 11 years so my body wasn't used to it, which I think also had an effect. It was possibly best described as a mega case of PMT but knowing it was all for a good cause was worth it.
Just had to get a bottle of Valerian and try relaxing.

Egg pick up was fine other than the usual after effects of feeling slightly sick and dazed - if you tend to feel like that after been knocked out. Just bad crampy feeling which panadol takes the edge off.

Other than that, I have no horror stories for you which is good as it's such a selfless and generous thing that you're doing.

Good luck with everything. It will all go as planned and be as it should.

I'm terrified of Hyperstimulation, but I hear it's worse after an embryo is put in (won't be happening to me).

The drug I have been prescribed is Lucrin. As well as Microgynon and Pregnon (? I think).

I am sooooo terrified, but excited for my friend C as she might become a Mummy if this works out!!!!! :fingerscrossed:

When I had hyperstimulation they wouldn't put my embryo back in till the month later, too risky. Im positive your friend C will become a mummy because she has an angel like you!!:hugs:

Just have to add that Hyperstimulation (in that scary context that the doctors tell you about) isn't that common. It's just a bit scary when they tell you that you could end up in hospital: or worse. But they have to tell you that. They're pretty switched on, keep a close eye on things and know when to stop, as they did with me. I ended up having over 27 follicles at about 28mm in size and the ovaries the size of grapefruit, so they stopped a day before the trigger injection and within about 4 days I felt fine. Just really sore and really bloated for a few days.

Just trust how your body feels. It will all work out fine:)

A grapefruit!! Yes it's true, but like boab said it isn't very common. My first EPU I didn't get hyperstimulation at all, I had 14 eggs collected and had no side effects. My second I had 29 so that is why I got it.:)
