View Full Version : Has anybody had pin worms before?
Are they are PITA (not pun intended...) to get rid of?
I've read loads of stuff on the Internet, and will go to the doctor tomorrow, but it sounds like it can be a drawn-out process to get rid of them (not from the body, but the eggs from the sheets, carpet etc).
I feel like throwing up. It's all so revolting.
Apparently, the female pin worm crawls out of the anus at night time to lay her (microscopic) eggs.:barf:
Can somebody give me a hopeful story where they had one dose of worming stuff, washed the sheets, and it was okay.:(
DS1 has had them once or twice since starting school and all it took was a dose of worming tablets and washing the sheets etc and they were gone

I believe you would need to wash not only clothes and sheets but towels and hand towels too.
Also extreme hand washing throughout the day to ensure cleanliness.
Also some good natural treatments for worms are lots of carrot/grated is easiest to eat lots of, fresh garlic (try garlic yogurt dip as a good way to eat it, and also some pepitas (pumpkins seeds) munched on throughout the day.
Combining these with the medical treatments should aid in ridding your family of them fast.
That's encouraging.
I'm sure we all have them (me, partner and 18-month-old) as we all have the same symptoms.
Hopefully we'll be lucky and get rid of them the first time. They said in some cases, it can take up to a year as the medication only kills the adult worm, but the eggs are all around your house, and then the cycle starts again once you ingest new eggs.
It's just all so revolting.:o

I hadn't yet read that about the food, so I'll combine that with the other stuff.
I suppose I'm panicking pre-emptively (and irrationally because apparently they don't cause much harm outside of irritation) as the doctor hasn't diagnosed.
But the symptoms are exactly as per the description on the Internet.

i've had them (and i've never gone to the doctor to get it diagnosed either  they come out when you do 'twosies' :barf:)
but i found them quite easy to treat, as the ladies have already said - take the medication, and just wash sheets, clothes, towels etc in hottish water.
they're far easier to get rid of than lice *shudder...runs away screaming*

An ex flatmate had bed bugs once. She said she ended up burning her bed to resolve the matter.:D
I feel itchy (or itchier considering my current state) just thinking about lice.
I might try the chemist, before the doctor, then, as it's really expensive to go on Sundays, and frustrating when it's not warranted.

Git your combantrin, and wash your bedding. If you want to do a proper check, put a bit of stickytape over your anus and you'll catch them good and proper. Worms. Totally gross but totally treatable.

We treated our family just this week! DS had been scratching his butt for weeks and as we were on holidays in qld I thought he just had a itchy but from chaffing or something, but after we got back he just kept scratching. Last saturday night I did the torch test - looked at his anus with a torch in the dark while he was asleep and I saw all these long white threads around his anus EEEEWWW:eek: Sunday night the whole family took a dose of worm treatment plus we wormed the cat as well (just for good measure). The following morning I changed his bed linen and his pj's our bed linen and DD bed linen and pj's and washed it all and them vacumed the floors. When I changed the linen and pj's I gently rolled them up and put them straight in the machine so as not to spill eggs etc everywhere. Did torch test last night all gone :yelclap:

You poor love, that's gross and horrible!:hugs::hugs: I remember having them as a child and not being particularly bothered by it but as an adult you understand things differently and I imagine it must be very unpleasant and feel freaky.
xox
p.s DD had them last year? We bought her this stuff that came in a chocolate bar, she loved it  Maybe you could get some of that? No worms, and you get to eat chocolate!:D

Yep!! This was DD, it hadn't even worried her, I only noticed because she did a poo in the potty and it had friends in it!:o *must have been the year before last* and btw her cousin liked the chocky stuff too! She never had them again and it was all over very quickly!
Do you want me to come over and give you the torch test?:D

I read the bit about the tape last night on another site, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.:o

I feel bad as well. My son's been grabbing his bottom every time we change his nappy for ages. I just thought it was a bit itchy from the nappy or it was just a novelty. But then when my partner and I realised we both had itchy bottoms, we did something about it. Bad mother!:o

Are you propositioning me?:valentine: The answer, of course, is a resounding yes. How quickly can you be here?
As a gross side note, apparently they are quite fond of climbing up vaginas as well. I shuddered as I typed that. Must go to chemist RIGHT now.:barf:
