Hello,

Congratulations on your first bub. I haven't met Dr Hill, but it is important to remember from the start that it is your birth and you have every right to have the support that you think you might need, to make your birth as wonderful as you hope it will be. If a Dr doesn't agree with that, then he isn't a very good Doctor at all. Feeling supported in birth is what makes natural births possible. If that makes sense?.

I have been a Doula for 6 years and haven't come across a single doctor or Midwife who didnt appreciate my support :D. I think when Doulas were just beginning to enter the hospital system, it was a bit different, but these days they are very accepted and welcomed in to the birthing environment.

Id be more than happy to talk more if you are interested...just pm me :)

Hi LnW,

If having a Doula is something you feel you need to support you during your birth, then that decision is totally yours, as a birthing woman its important that you receive the support you need from whomever you choose to be with you in your birth. In my experience from my own births and ones I have attended its crucial for the women to feel safe, nurtured and supported during her labour, trusting the people around you makes a profound difference. This is totally your decision, your birth and your baby.

I am 33yrs old student Doula, live on Northside of Brisbane and am mother of three wonderful little people. I have had three natural births in various settings from Hospital, Birth Centre and Home and am passionate about women being supported and empowered to achieve a deeply satisfying birthing experience. Please do drop me a line if you need any more info. I would be happy to discuss supporting you in your birth and any questions you have about having a Student Doula.

Congratulations on your baby, enjoy this special journey together and know that you are a strong woman who can birth this baby the way you wish.

Warm regards,
