View Full Version : Ideas for a Christening Present when you are a Godparent for a little boy
 Ladies
So my DH and I are becoming godparents for the first time next week and I have no idea what type of gift we should be giving our godson (oh that is so exciting to say that :D).
Does anyone have any ideas on this one I am super stuck cause I really want to get something meaningful but also something that is not just the normal christening gift

Our son was given a money box, an engraved brooch and a Bunnykins dinner set.
Our daughter was given a jewellery box, a gold cross and necklace and more Bunnykins. I also bought her a pandora bracelet and my son a watch.
And the second set of godparents (for our daughter) are Croatian and gave us a $200 bottle of scotch as it is apparently some sort of tradition . Great tradition!:D

i have a goddaughter, and i'm making her a cross stitch baby-sampler, which is a cute little picture, plus her name, date of birth and special details.
And i would have done the same for a boy.
I think giving him something personal is best though. Even if its an empty book (now), which you'll fill up with photo's and memories of him/with him for the next 18-21 years, and then gift it to him properly?
or maybe buy him a book-box set that you can just gift him an extra book a year?
I'm pretty much a 'make-presents' person though :o sorry.
Roo's god mother gave a silver dinner set.
Other babies that were christened on the day were given a personal candle that was engraved/decorated with the date and name of baby and was used in the cermony. That might be something to consider if the parents dont already have a traditional one?

We didnt have a christening but we do have "godparents". more a symbolic thing really.
On DS first birthday his godfather gave him a knife, fork, spoon set that was silver and engraved with "To Joshua Love TauPapa" (means godfather, he's from PNG)
Its so beautiful and is something we can keep for him till he's older.
the money box idea is lovely too. And something homemade is always special.
Hope you find something you like :)

My DH is godfather to his nephew who is now 5 and being baptised for the sake to get into a catholic school... DH doesn't want to give anything religious as he is not getting baptised for that reason and he has suggested a horoscope pendant instead of a St Christopher (which was my suggestion). I like the idea of a silver moneybox as well so might need to drag DH into a jewellers this week to look at other options...
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
We gave our godson a gold cross and chain.
I figured it was something that he could also appreciate and wear as an adult.

I would go with gold jewellery, or a few hundred bucks in a card.
A children's Bible or a Children's book of Prayers.
St Christopher necklace or the like.

My daughter received a beautiful personalised candle with her picture embedded. It is a gorgeous keepsake.
