View Full Version : help my poor lil son. nappy rash Q
ok i need a lil bit of advise, my poor lil man has had the runs for a day, its getting better now but as a result he has bad nappy rash, his whole bottom is red and he cries when i wipe his bum. i feel so bad for him, we used to use bottom butter but i cant find it anywhere, it was great tho. anyway, i have curash nappy cream, but it dosent seem to be helping, how long before i should notice a difference with the rash. or is there a better cream to use, id prefer natural stuff but not sure where to buy any from. any advice would be much appreciated.
is there any thing else i can do? please help, i feel so bad for him its making me cry whenever i change his bum.

Hi,
My DD has had some nappy rash over the weekend too.
I started using a wet facewasher to wipe her off with, then pat her dry with some tissues, then a thick layer of Sudocream.
Also doing more frequent nappy changes - ie 2-hrly during the day and overnight at dream feed and if she wakes up.
Lucus PawPaw Ointment is also meant to be good for nappy rash if you don't want to use a medicated cream.
If there is no improvement after 2-3 days, I would switch creams
I hope your DS feels better soon

If it is really inflammed i would go to the chemist and get some hydrozole cream it is the best stuff for bad nappy rash, once it clears then i'd go back to using a non medicated one.
Paw paw is good but i have heard some people say that it can encourage the rash as it gives it moisture to grow.
Paw paw is awesome on lips:yes: (preferable not after you've used it on bubs bum )

I use botty Butter made from bees wax, is that the one you are talking about? If so you can get it from the chemist. If not get it!! It's wonderful!!!!

Sudocream, a thick layer with every nappy change. It should be better tomorrow.

Disposable nappies give DS the most evil of rashes. He never gets a rash with his MCN's. Also using babywipes can aggravate the rash, as a lot of them have alcohol and other stingy chemicals in them.
I just use 1 wet facewasher to wipe his bum and another one to dry it. I dont use any creams or powders as he doesn't get rashes anymore.
But when he did get rashes in the hospital, I used cornflour (yes the $2 one lol) and Calmoseptine ointment that the nurse gave me. Anything that has zinc in it, is great. It stops the urine and feces from touching the skin, preventing skin irritation and giving it time to heal.
Another cream that helped DS, was just a simple Zinc and Castor Oil cream. You can buy that over the counter at the pharmacy. Though its a little more liquid than the Calmoseptine.
Also, if you use MCN's you might want to use a nappyliner, as its very hard to wash the cream out of an MCN.

Try a cream from the chemist called Desitin. It has 40% zinc in it which is heaps more than even creams like sudocrem. My DS has a raw bottom and it cleared up dramatically after just one application and almost all gone after 24hrs.

Totally agree with this. My doctor told me to use it. You get it at the chemist.

DS had his first major nappy rash a couple of days ago, thanks to a day in sposies.
Usually if he gets a bit red we put a small amount of sudocrem on, and the redness is gone by the next nappy change, but this time he had two open sores that the cream wouldn't even stick to, so we just gave him HEAPS of nappy free time, wiped his bum very carefully with a wet cloth (not a baby wipe), and made sure to change his nappy every 1 - 2 hours even if it wasn't wet or dirty.
It took two days to heal up again.

Hydrozole was the only thing that worked for DD when she got bad nappy rash (red and blistering).
