screaming in the middle of the night please help

my 2 nad 1/2 year old son has always been a good sleeper suddenly he has been waking up every hour or so at night screaming uncontrollably im getting scared now as it has happened for the last 5 nights why is he doing this?

It sounds like night terrors. There have been a few threads about this, so if you do a search you'll come up with some good information.

They're absolutely awful, and it's so distressing isn't it.
