On Friday I visited Repromed (the major fertility specialists in SA/Darwin) and was prescribed Clomid. I was suspected to have PCOS (my 2 sisters also have it) however they cant say 100% at this stage as there are a few things that point to it but a few that dont also.. however regardless of if I do or not the fact remains that after 5 months of being off the pill I am not ovulating or have not had a real bleed. I was told that because i am not ovulating there can be a build up of immature eggs which can cause cysts on the ovaries anyway so Clomid is the best option.

I am going for a blood test and another vaginal ultrasound on Monday morning to test my hormone levels. I am told that the nurses will then call me to advise when to start taking Clomid. They are not going to induce a period...

I have a few questions...

1) - I have just started to spot lightly, I did also 2 weeks ago (for almost a week) which was very light, and bright red, dark red and brown. Today it started and has just been brown, again really light, really only noticible when I wipe after going to the toilet. I dont think they are open on Sundays, do you think if i am still spotting on Monday it will be ok to still have the tests? Will a little bit of spotting disrupt a vaginal scan?

2) - does anyone have any tips, advice or a story of your experiance on using Clomid? It will be most appreciated and Im sure others in my position will also read now and in the future (searching) on these boards.

3) - has anyone had CLomid without a period induction? I know my sister on her second child didnt as the drug they give you to bring one on had terrible side affects for her.. but i have read that it is unusual to not bring one on (they didnt know about my sisters case so this is not why they have not done it for me)

Thanks heaps! :hugs:

Hi Nicole...

I took Clomid to conceive DD. Before I started my first cycle, my specialist put me on the pill for two weeks to bring on a fake period, then, I had BTs, scan to see if everything was ok to start a Clomid cycle. I fell pg on our second try....:yelclap:

I have PCOS hence why I was on Clomid. However, my second pg was conceived naturally..... so PCOS is not always the be all end all...

I had no side effects (except for hot flushes) from taking Clomid either.

Good luck, and hope you get a BFP very soon!

cant help with the clomid, but having had lots of internal scans, I cant imagine how a little bit of spotting would interfere with that... Good luck

Thanks guys!

The spotting didnt matter, the ladies were REALLY nice... She showed me my ovaries and there were at least 22 cysts on one of them, the normal range is apparently 5-6 so that along with my high Testosterone and lack of ovulation confirms I have PCOS...

I am going to answer one of my own questions incase anyone else is wondering the same thing and the info is helpful... :D

Now apparently they often induce a peroid to get the hormone levels down, ensure you are not about to ovulate or may be pregnant and/or to rid the lining incase it is thick (and perhaps 'barren') after not bleeding for some time. I had an ultrasound and blood test this morning to check the lining and hormone levels. The lining, despite not having really bleed for 5 months was not thick at all and they expect my hormone levels to be low also, therefore I can start to take Clomid. They are ringing me this afternoon to confirm the hormone levels and tell me when to start taking it. This is explained better here http://www.wdxcyber.com/ninfer10.htm
