I'm 19 weeks pregnant and really don't want to get the swine flu vaccine but am scared of getting swine flu while pregnant! So I'm wondering if there is any way of knowing what sort of chance I have of getting it? I know being pregnant puts at a higher risk, but I don't believe I've ever even had the normal flu and never had flu shots. I'm generally really healthy. My only concern is I teach kids, one on one in my home, so I am in contact with kids who may get it from school, but then they often come in with awful colds and infections that I rarely catch as well.

Do these things mean I would be any less likey to catch the swine flu or is it just wishful thinking? Are there any things I can do to protect myself, apart from getting the vaccine? I'm not confident in the vaccine because it is new and I don't like the idea of getting a vaccine while pregnant. Thanks.

Many of the germs that give you bugs are transferred after you've touched something germy and then rubbed your nose, picked your teeth, wiped your mouth etc, so a good way to avoid getting sick is to wash the germs off your hands regularly (not just before/after eating and toiletting) and try to avoid touching your face.
