I have heard that a few people have recently.

I only want one scan in this pregnancy and I thought if I made it the 12 week one instead of the 20 week one....I wont have to wait so long

I didn't even know it was possible! Last time I was pregnant I asked the ultrasound guy when I had a 14 week scan and he wouldn't tell me anything!

I'll try again this time. I wanna know early too.

All the people I know who have found out have been in the last 2 years....and they have been given an idea on gender but definitely not a guarantee, lol.

I just want the one scan and have never had a 12 week one.

If you want to know the sex of your baby, but only want one ultrasound then I would only get one at 19/20 weeks, unless you want to do the NT testing.

At 12 weeks, I'm pretty sure that the testicles in a male baby would not have dropped yet and most probably would appear to be a girl.

Hmmm, okaaaaaay :( It seems soooo long to wait :geek::laughing: I don't particularly want to get the NT scan.

I would wait for the 19/20 week one too. At my 12 week ones they wouldn't even hazard a guess (and they had 4d available) and those that I know that did find out and give birth to the opposite gender were told the gender in the earlier scan. You could be told at the 12 week one but I'd be wanting to confirm it at the 20 week scan if I was going to believe it.

We had a scan at 13 weeks exactly with my last pregnancy and were told we were expecting a girl. And they were right. Although we did take it and then dismiss it as they have a higher chance of being wrong. I personally wouldnt get my hopes up.

I was told at 12 weeks with DS1 that she was almost 100% sure he was a boy and he most definately is a boy! :)

DS2 however, we couldn't tell at 12 weeks or 19 weeks. He was a cheeky little thing! ;)

I found out at about 14wks (doc knew for 2 weeks) .. She knew I wanted to know so requested a test done during the NT blood test.

They can speculate but I wouldn't like to put money on it!

At 12 weeks, I'm pretty sure that the testicles in a male baby would not have dropped yet and most probably would appear to be a girl.

It's usually the opposite, the girl's bits are usually still on the 'outside' and therefore most babies look like boys at 12 weeks gestation.

I found a great website with pictures to show this, it was really interesting... but I have lost the web address!!

Don't do it K!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roar was deemed a "Boy" AKA Mason at 13w5d by a VERY experienced sonographer who was double checking DS markers..

Needless to say she was indeed a she!!!! - wait till the genitalia are indeed formed before a "believable" check..

As you can tell by looking at this site it is hard to tell at 12 weeks what the gender is.

I had my NT at 12 weeks and the technician said she was 70% sure it was a boy.
I note that I didn't see anything in the ultrasound that would indicate that and nothing was pointed out.
The 3D image was dubious as baby had its legs crossed and whilst you could see some sort of lump, there were actually lumpy bits everywhere!

I got home and began to Google and found this interesting page. Take a look and see what you think. http://baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html

I was told at my 12 week scan that I was having a boy. It appeared pretty clear to even me that he was a boy, but I guess I didn't really know what I was looking at. I didn't get my hopes up until I'd had it confirmed at the 20 week scan though.

My sister had a ultrasound at 13 weeks and they said it might be a boy, but to get a more accurate view would be at the 20 week scan.

I also found an excellent website about determining the gender at 12weeks onwards & lost the web address:no:, I do remember that they said with most cases they found it to be 80% accurate with the gender of a baby at a 12week scan:yes:

So no harm in asking, I just would'nt get my hopes up until the 20week scan:wave:

I found out at 13 weeks with both of mine!

It was a surprise both times. I was not expecting them to tell me the sex so early. They said it wasnt definate but they were pretty sure!

Every scan after that I got them to check for the "bits" and confirm!

Boooo...:( I had my 13 week scan today and I told the ultrasound guy I wanted to know the gender and he said he'd tell me if he could.

Anyway, even though he got a clear shot of bubby's genitals, he said he still couldn't really tell and wouldn't like to guess. Boo to that.

So I told him I would be back in 5 weeks so he could tell me at my 18 week scan.

THEN he said that if I wanted to be really sure of the gender it would be better to wait til 19 weeks. Boo to that too. Means I have another 6 weeks to wait!

If you really want to find out get one of those 3d scans done. I am booking mine in for 6 weeks when I am 14 weeks along and the person I spoke to said they can give you a very very accurate gender at that time, actually she said its almost impossible for them it get it wrong.

It costs between $100-$200 for a 3d gender scan .

FF - I'm in the exact same position! I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a NT scan but I don't really want any other scans. Given my age I'm thinking the NT scan is probably a good idea (I can't see myself getting an amnio) but I want to keep any 'intrusiveness' to a minimum.

Can I ask where you are getting this done? I wanted one done nearly 4 years ago when pregnant with dd2 and they wouldnt do a 3d scan unless it was for a medical reason - not just because you wanted to see bubs

I know just how difficult it is! Although we had the NT scan, we didn't want to get told the wrong gender (DP desperately wanted a boy :o) so we waited. I almost died when they told me that they were booked out until when I was 20 weeks for the morph scan!

The wait thankfully went quickly and it's almost been as long since the morph scan as it was that I was waiting for it :)

I was told a boy at my 13week NT and also confirmed 3 times after that.
My sister was told a girl at her NT scan which was at 14 weeks and she had an amnio which confirmed the gender
