And I have no idea what I should do or how to get her to stop?? She is 13mo. When she is told 'no' or even just moved away from something she shouldn't be doing or has something taken off her,she falls to the ground and starts hitting her face against the floor. Then she starts crying histerically because she's hurt herself. Some people have told me to pick her up straight away and stop her from doing it and others have said I need to ignore her because she is looking for a reaction? Is it normal behavior? How do I deal with it?
My DS used to do the same thing around the same age. I couldn't stop him doing it, but he did grow out of it. I don't know why he did it...frustration probably. I would just go with distraction when he started doing it...move to a different room, do something different.
My DD used to fall backwards to go into tantrum mode then whack her head and cry. i always picked her up. Eventually she learned to ease herself down to the floor to tantrum without hitting her head lol it's really quite amusing!
hahaha My son used to do that against the wall and my nephew used to do it on the floor. We just ignored it and they stopped. Just a phase they go through I guess.

Ah ok so it's nothing to worry about! Thanks :) I will keep picking her up and hopefully she grows out of it.

I wouldnt even pick her up, not untill a little bit after otherwise she might keep doing it because she will know it gets her attention. Just wait until after she has stopped. OR just like pick her up with out cuddles or talking and put her somewhere else like her cot
Last thing you want is for her to keep doing it to get attention.
My 16.5 month old DD does this if she doesn't get her way. I just ignore it. The other day though she whacked her head on my parents slate floor! Ouch!
My son started doing that at that same age!!At 18 months hes almost outgrown it.He would smack his head on ANYTHING including concrete:eek:

I'd definitely pick her up and distract her.
My 14mo gets all worked up when she is tired and has had some good head smacks and I feel its out of her control - its her frustration welling up and taking over.
Just my opinion!

My DS went through a big phase of this. We picked him up the vast majority of the time, now at 2 he's stopped doing it unless frustrated to an extreme point, thankfully. More often he will hit, kick or bite the offensive door frame/mop bucket/toy  Watching him bite the door frame was priceless :p
I know its a hard phase, I can really sympathise :hugs:
