Ask your GP about Elidel cream. It's great for rashes.

What nappies are you using and what cleaning method??????
It would be good to find out the cause as well as a cure.
I found a particular disposable nappy caused a red rash to start on my son, pm me and I will disclose the brand, otherwise it will be deleted if I post it here.

Cornflour....from the pantry.
Amelia had a constant nappy rash for the first part of her life. I tried zinc and castor oil, paw paw, all the major brands and canesten. In the end I had to get a cortisone based cream to clear it up. Since I have switched to cloth I've had no dramas though. Go and have a chat to the chemist.

Thanks guys!
I'm using cloth nappies. I soak them for at least 2 hours in Woolworths Nappy Wash and then wash them in the machine and dry them in the dryer.
I took all his nappies yesterday though and have washed them, re rinsed them, and dried them again. But this time I used Napisan. I thought maybe its the cheeper wash...although it didnt cause nappy rash to start with (he got that after his imunisations, we were warned it could happen) it might be irritating it. What do you think?
Cheers,
Kat
oooh I cant remember what cloth you are using?? - are they flats or modern?? - if FLATS .. I would immediately do a hot wash with minimal detergent (the heat is the killer... unfortunately you cant do that with PUL nappies - or at least shouldn't lol )
good luck :hugs:

Veve, yesterday afternoon I washed them all in boiling water (well as hot as you get out of a tap), and used proper nappisan.....and voila...today his rash is cleaning up like a dream!
No more cheepo san for us!
I just cant understand why it didnt upset him straight away....

I just posted similar in another nappy rash thread, so I'll post it here too. It's a possibility that if no creams or lotions are clearing it up, that it may be a thrush infection. My DD had one and it took ages to find out what it was. I took her into the pharmacist and she took one look and said Thrush. It was a product starting with D that cleared it up. Sorry, can't recall the name exactly.

FunkyChicken - Ive got one for thrush from the chemist, but it didnt make any difference either. :(
Veve - The rash is still there, BUT the nasty little bumps have gone now...its just red....I guess its been iritated for so long that it will take a while to clear up fully. I'm plastering it with Zinc and Unvita....and I'm changing his nappy every 2 hours during the day.
Fingers crossed its all clear soon!!! I dont want to have to take him for his 4 month check wth the CHN and her to see he still has it....she will think I'm mistreating him!!! But I have been trying everything to clear it for weeks!
I just didnt even consider the wash!

just a thought, if you dont want to spend so much money on napisan, i know its good, but good ol white king in the big 3L bottle for me did the trick when i had my eldest daughter in nappies, but if the napisan is working for you then dont worry, it was just a thought. :)

Being of island decent my grandmother gave me some great advice for nappy rash, allergic reations you can even use it on nipples after feeding, it's called Paw Paw Ointment and it works magic, I'm glad you figured out what the problem was (cheepo-san). But if you ever need an ointment that can fix almost anything give it a go, you can get it from the local chemist and it's only $3.00 a tube and lasts for ages and because it's all natural you can use it on even the most allergy prone children
i use aldi nappies and they stopped the nappy rash as they are great for sensitive bums.i also mixed curash powder and olive oil together to make a paste and that also worked wonders.:)
Have you tried bepanthen, its lifesaver.
 Excellent stuff also I have heard Cammomile leaves/seeds in water and wipe with that can heal very quickly :)

also try bathing in bi carb a couple of times a day. When its bad it seems to stop it being so angry especially if it's a trush type rash
If you've worked out it's not thrush and the new washing method is seeing improvments, I'd guess that it's a reaction to your washing detergent.
Did you know that Napisan (or any other kind of bleach or sanitiser) is not necessary to wash nappies hygenically? They can really irrate skin if it hasn't been rinsed out properly.
Try switching to your normal detergent (I assume that's what you wash his clothes in with no problem) and starting off with about 1/3 of the reccommended amount. Then do an extra rinse afterwards and check to see if there are any suds in the water which will mean that you have detergent residue in your nappies. If that's so, then you'll have to just rinse and rinse and rinse until there are no more suds. Some people find vinegar good for this but I've found vinegar doesn't work well in hard water areas. Then line dry if possible to expose the nappy to some uv light.
