how long do u wait before ttc after c section

Simple question really - just we are wanting to ttc again and not sure how long we need to wait before we should..not made my mind up yet about vbac or c section again...only cos I terrified!! as was all geared up for v birth but then had urgent c section and now even more scared about v birth then was before...:rolleyes: thought an 18 month gap would be nice which would mean to fall pregnant round about dd being 9 months...only 6 weeks at mo...also any advice on contraception in maeantime seeing as I dont want my body to be full of drugs that will prevent me falling...

any kind of surgery on the tummy area you should wait at least 3mths for it to heal to not falling again look at what you have used before if it worked use it again if it didnt go talk to doc as they can suggest something with differant hormone in it that may work for you i would not suggest depo or implanon as it can much up your cycle after coming of it good luck hope this helped

My Dr said gtting pg straight after isn't as bad as waiting 5+ yrs as the scar toughens up and is more likely to rupture. GL.

When i had my c-section i got told by numerous people that you shouldnt fall pregnant until atleast a year after the first one but then i was told as little as 6 was acceptable by some other people (but never heard of anything less than 6 cos its major major surgery).............................maybe its cos peoples scars are different and peoples bodies react differently to surgery so some peoples bodies might be able to cope after a short time and some people might require a longer time. The best thing to do would be to talk to the hospital or person that did the c-section...................I fell pregnant (accidently) 2 years after my c-section and i get a bit of pain down there while its stretching

Contraception wise talk to your GP. I HAD to talk to mine at the 6 week check up because it was mandatory for some reason :confused:

Hey there,

Like you, I ended up having an emergency c/s. I fell pregnant again when DD was 15 weeks old. I was worried about being pregnant again so soon, but because I had no problems with my surgery and everything healed nicely, my ob said that there should be no problems at all. I have had no pain whatsoever.

I am debating whether or not I will have an elective c/section this time around or a vbac, but the doctor also said that either will be ok - the choice is mine.

Around 18 months to 2 years is optimum. Healed well, but not too well. But our bodies are amazing things...

As for contraception, would you consider the Billings method? Are you breastfeeding?

my ob told me 12 months before I can fall again to minimise risk of rupture and increase the chances of having more babies (we would like at least 4). This is the same as anyone else I know and all info I have read (12months -2 years pretty much). Good luck xxx

i too was told the same after having a c section with #3... btween 1 yr and 2 yrs is best :D

I actually spoke to my ob about this yesterday at my 6week checkup.

She said 1 year is best but I should be fine around 6months.

hubby & i fell preggas again just short of 3 months from 1st caesar..

i had a really good wound though, healed great, everyone was amazed...

but i did have to have a 2nd caesar for #2 [well, theeeey said i would have to, because it was to close to other to try vbac]
