My name is Tamara and since I was a young girl I have always been interested in becoming a midwife and now my dreams are coming true. :)
I am currently studying my bachelor of midwifery at the Australian Catholic University in Fitzroy, Melbourne.
Part of the degree is the “Follow Through Journey”, which is a program designed to provide student midwives like myself, with real life experiences with women throughout pregnancy. I am currently looking for pregnant women to share their journey with me.
I’ve written a little spiel below about the Follow Through Journey program and what it involves. I would be so grateful if you could pass this information on to anyone you know who is pregnant and might be interested, or who may be able to send to friends of theirs who it may relate to!
FOLLOW THROUGH JOURNEY
The Follow Through Journey (FTJ) is a unique program developed by ACU to enable student midwives to experience hands on learning by developing professional, supportive relationships with pregnant women. This relationship begins with an initial meeting between the woman, myself, and my mentor midwife, and ends 3-4 weeks after the woman has given birth. All contact throughout is totally up to the woman – time spent together can include attending antenatal appointments, ultrasound scans, childbirth education classes, having me there as a support person for you during the labour and birth of the baby, or just catching up for coffee.
Women who participate in the Follow Through Journey benefit from a one to one supportive relationship, which has been proven to improve labour and birth experiences and outcomes. It also provides women with access to all the resources available to me through my university, research, lecturers and peers.
I would love to hear from any women who are interested in sharing their experiences of pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting with a midwifery student. If you would like more information, please send me an e-mail with any questions to: tam.romero@hotmail.com (tam.romero@hotmail.com)
Thank you for all your help and support.
Your help and support will enable me to be a better midwife!
