Hi there,
I have just recently found out that I am pregnant - with twins, which is fabulous news.
However, I am very much into natural birth (I used hypnobirthing with my first bub and had a great birth experience). The birth centre have immediately told me that I am no longer able to birth there - since I have twins, which is a "complication".
I have private cover, but I chose St George birth centre, because of the midwife managed, natural focus.
I am looking at hiring an independent midwife, but the costs are $3700 and I am appalled that ind midwifes are not covered through medicare.
The standard procedure in the public hosptial is for me to have an epidural, so that they can turn the second bub if need be.
It is really important for me to at least try for a natural birth and I am completely against drugs, personally, as a routine intervention.
However, I feel I am completely discriminated against because I anticipate a natural birth. I feel like I have to go into great negotiations with caregivers to have a natural birth, and the government does not support independent midwives. A private Obstetrician might be an idea, but at the end of teh day, they are not the ones to support me through the birth, and I have to rely on the luck of the draw when it comes to which midwife I get in the private hospital.
Has anyone been "allowed" to have a natural twin delivery in Sydney and felt very supported by their caregivers?
Many thanks..
