View Full Version : So many questions about my baby!

DS2 is nearly three months old and is, in general the world's happiest baby.

But I have two areas I have questions about:

Weight. He was born on the 50th percentile, and as I was still feeding DS1 and already had milk he never lost weight, gained like a trooper and reached something like 5kg (90th+ percentile) by one month old. He was weighed last week and he had gained only 1kg putting him bang back on the 50th. Today he was weighed again and had lost 100g. Um...what is going on?

Vomiting. He always seems to be vomiting on and off and I'm always told a different reason. Is it coincidence?
He vomited a lot in the early weeks and in hospital (esp a lot of mucusy foamy stuff). Midwives said it was because he had a fast delivery (less than 15mins from 7cm to in my arms) and had shoulder dystocia so was pulled out.
Then he was vomiting in the first month or two (milk) and was told I was overfeeding, not reflux or anything as his weight gain was huuuge. So I started restricting his feeds and it did seem to help.
It got worse again a few weeks ago and he projectiled and even got down to yellow/green stuff. I took him to the hospy and they checked him out and said probably gastro (Bub was the only one to get it).
It improved for a week and is back. Just normal milky vomit, but DS is really inconsolable about it. He looks so sore when he is vomity.

Today he has only had two feeds, and has been vomity and crying. WDYT? Do I battle it out with someone? I think I will be told that he is 'unsettled' because he was vaccinated today.

HELP!

Vomiting for no reason for an extend period of time isnt a good thing.

It could be one of many things.

For me personally when DS was like a milk fountain, i battled till the dealth with countless Dr.s untill we had an answer.
So yes i would battle.

As for the weight gains, i dont like weekly weighs because you cant notice enough difference from one week to the next.
Also if his chucking a lot he wont be keeping much down to be able to gain & if his started to move all his energy will be going into moving & not gaining.

Oh your poor bub :( Definately go back to the dr or a good paed till you get to the bottom of it as soon as you can. I would never rely on what dr's say at the hospital, they're busy and want you in and out so will give the simplest explanation.

i agree with tt could be heaps of things.

weight gain - 100grams loss could have been from weeing, pooing, not having a bottle before being weighed. also was it a nude weigh or was he fully clothed? and was it on the same scales as last time? they are all varying factors in accuracy.

vomitting - could be multiple things, allergies/intolerances, reflux, etc etc. but definitly push to get it resolved.

vaccinations can make bubs unsettled, but even so they shouldnt just turn u away.
