I have been doing some more research about using the pill to treat PCOS, as my dr has done for me, and reasearch says it should only be used for treating the symptoms (ie irregular cycles) but something like metformin should be used to treat the cause of PCOS.
I have also found that the cause of PCOS is usually high levels of testosterone, which i dont have, mine are in the normal levels, i only have two slightly abnormal hormones - Sex hormone binding globulin, and free androgen index, and in the research i have done about these, they are out of wack in obese people, like myself, so to cure the problem i have, i need to lose weight, which i kinda knew already, which is why i applied for the biggest loser, but am trying to lose weight anyway.
Sorry about the :ecomcity: i think i am making sense, but what i am trying to do is convince myself that being on the pill is not the best thing for me, and just losing weight is
I have no cysts on my ovaries, and all of my other hormones were at normal levels, so does anyone think i am thinking the right thing? or are you all confused now

Doula, glad you are getting answers!

I'm really confused with the condition myself. I have PCOS, but arn't Overweight, but I do have cysts on my ovaries. My specialist never put me on metformin?? I know what PCOS is, but confused, I guess because there are different levels of it from mild to severe...I get confused between the diff of PCO and PCOS, I know there is one..... I'm seeing my specialist on Sep 20 and will get this cleared up with him. he will then put me on Clomid no doubt!

From reading your post, I think that as your PCOS is hormone related and you have no cysts on your ovaries (which is fantastic) I think that you more than likely need to lose the weight. I know, it is hard....I struggle to keep my weight within the healthy range, and it is VERY hard. I have a feeling if you were to lose the weight, the hormones would most likely normalise and would work normally to make you Ovulate..... good thing is...no cycsts to stop those eggies coming out!!! :smiliedance: Thats my problem!!!! You're pcos sounds like my best friends' . She has lost 30 kilos and her hormone levels (not sure exactly which ones) are starting to improve.

Anyway, I think I've prob confused you further....if you need to talk am here for you :hugs: I know its sooooo hard waiting but you will get there sweetie!
