and now i'm saying it again...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY CUP!!!!!! :smiliedance::smiliedance:

wow, i didn't realise how bad my period pains used to be, until i had to use a libra pad yesterday because i went to the baby expo, and didn't want to change my cup as often as i knew i should (:rolleyes:cause i'm stoopid), and just put a pad on as well. and then didn't think about taking it off until i got up this morning.

and OMFG, i have been doubled over in the foetal position all morning in tears. and then when i realised that the pad might be the problem, i took it out, and it took maybe half an hour to an hour max, for the pain to just :babydust2: *poof* vanish :D

just thought i'd share that, cause it just made me love and appreciate my cup a little more :bee:

I need to look into these cups, as I think my period may be finally coming back. Worst luck.

I worry about them getting full and leaking.

Maybe I'll try the cloth pads first. Baby steps.:D

That's really interesting about the difference in pain thing. How do the pads cause the pain? Is it the chemicals?

I believe so

if i use cloth or cup, i get little to no cramping - whereas if i'm using 'sposies (pads, i can't use tampons at all), i'll be doubled up and completely useless.

maybe i'm adding a+b=c and it should equal d? but its the only thing that i know i changed between this period and the last

And i think that the cup is actually a little less confronting than cloth pads. because theres no evidence of it left once i leave the bathroom, kwim? i tip the contents down the sink (cause i wanna rinse it out anyway), and so i leave the bathroom, and unless i managed to spill it in the toilet, you cannot tell its that time of month for me :yelclap:
but cloth pads are awesome too  i still use them on days where i'm going to be too lazy to change my cup as often as it needs it :p

Ooh Ooh...I LOVE my cloth pads too!!! I have just started using them and it hasn''t reduced my days of AF, but the flow is HEAPS lighter and the pain is hardly even there! They are awesome and sorry for TMI....

but they dont stink!

I am SO buying a cup. I was going to start with cloth pads, but I am a tampon user through and through, so I think the cup is for me. That is if my period ever decides to come back

I'm thinking of getting some cloth panty liners though.

Cups are AWESOME!!! I started using mine about 5 months ago when AF came back. I had never heard of them until I joined Bubhub.;) Thanks girls!
Besides the ease, the shorter, less painful periods and the lack of mess and waste, they are SUCH good value for money. I paid $50 for mine and I would have spent that easily by now on disposable sanitary products!!!

I'm curious about the cups. Are they easy to insert and the likes? I hate pads, well I hate having to change them, and them leaking, and tampons are so uncomfortable!

personally, i think if you can do tampons (at all - even though i can't), then the cup will be no problem.

'cause its plastic, it literally just slides up (well, there's this annoying little thing called the perenium to get it past first - but most mums are aware of its existance...i wasn't :p), whereas tampons literally soak up any moisture in the vagina, which is why they can be so uncomfortable to insert.

Here (http://www.labyrinth.net.au/%7Eobsidian/clothpads/Cups.html) is a really good page about the cup in general.
and this one (http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/453392.html?nc=58) explains how to insert it - there are several methods, so experimentation is key to figuring out what works for you.

on 'heavy' flow days i probably have to change it every 2-3 hours because i start to leak. but if i just put a cloth liner on, i can go longer :shame: its naughty, but i personally hate changing it in public toilets, so i try to wait till i'm home when i can.
on lighter flow days i can go up to 12 hours without changing it (at 12 hours i start to feel like its a bit of an icky health reason to change though) - there's no risk of toxic shock syndrome :yelclap:

I have a friends who's muscles instantly strt to contract on tampons and expell them so they fall out. Has anyone heard of this and know if a cup might still work for her?

my cup seems to form a vacuum inside me, but it does over the day travel up and down that canal  i've never managed to expel it though?

my advice to her would be to get a diva cup from ebay (they're like 30 bucks?). and try
if it doesn't work, maybe she has a friend who is happy to have a slightly used one :p otherwise, its not like its the 50 bucks i spent?

its not something i have encountered before - maybe start a new thread asking for extra advice?

thats hilarious!!! i am going to have to start carrying a cloth pad with me for days where i'm at uni/hospital - because i avoid changing my cup in public toilets, and so it can just gently leak into a pad that way
cause on a heaps heavy flow day, i need to change it every 3 hours, and i just cbf :laughing:

I've had my cup for about 18 months now and I LOOOOOOOVE it.... I really wish I'd learnt about these things years ago.

The cup didn't work for me but I returned it with full refund (which I thought was great service!) I want to invest in some cloth pads but we are TTC so it is not a high priority- although it would be nice to know if my bleed would be lighter and shorter.

 i know what you mean. although luckily i went for less than 6 years before i discovered it :bee: and my goddaughter and daughters (+ neices, friends daughters, granddaughters etc etc), will all receive one in a 'you're a woman now' package :D

cloth pads are really good! i just find that if i don't detain the blood before i can feel it coming out, then all my muscles cramp up and hurt :( which is why i managed to eventually force the cup past a perenium that didn't want to even consider stretching out that far at the time :p

brief ring of fire, versus a week of cramped lower abdominal and all those other muscles

Just curious do you have to rinse it out in the sink each time you empty it..? If so how do you do this in public?

in public i usually just wipe it down with toilet paper  (which i hate doing...so i often just wear a cloth pad and ignore the slight leakage that occurs on heavy days :o)

or i carry a water bottle [or a spare one?] with me so i can squirt the cup ;)

the diva cup is around 30-40 on ebay, and the lunette (which i've got) is around 57 these days.

they're both good.

because its a reusable product they dont' come any cheaper than that (but on the flip side, thats a one-off cost of 50ish bucks - and they should last at least/around 10 years :D thats like, $5 a year for the next ten years...versus the roughly 100+ a year i was spending on disposable products)

I bought a keeper and it had a 60day return policy if you could not use it (around 5% of women can't) I just found it overflowed every 1-2 hours as I have a heavy bleed and when my bleed was lighter it leaked, it just didn't suit my body.

Thanks for this thread! AF has just returned regularly after an 18mth hiatus following my daughters birth, and I'm very interested in getting a cup.

I've just read the reviews linked on the first page (great links by the way!) and I think I'd like either a Lunette or a Lady Cup. Where do you buy those ones from? And how much are they? Is it worth spending less to see if I like one first if they all feel different anyway?

The MeLuna is a good "starter" one, it is softer than most cups and you can get it cheapish from a UK website (Feminine Wear) It comes in a variety of stems, so if your stem is a bit pokey try the ball stem or the ring stem (i have one of these)

I love my cups, i have a Lunette for heavy flow and a MeLuna Ring stem for lighter flow, and my cloth pads are great too.
