Haven't seen that video but my hubby was given a great book before DS1 was born called 'So you're going to be a dad.' Can't rememeber the author though sorry.
But its written in a blokes perspective and he really enjoyed it. He's also not really the reading type so I was surprised that he read the whole thing.

I brought Being Dad about 3 months ago. I've watched it and am still waiting for DH to watch it!

The video is ok...but I was expecting it to be better. It does follow a dad to be through until his wife gives birth, which I think is important for first time dad's to see (I cried through out the birth  ).

Hi there,
We bought the Being Dad DVD and watched it together - mainly because my hubby is not a reader, but he is interested in finding stuff out. It is interesting in that you hear from the perspectives of lots of different men about how they have experienced pregnancy and fatherhood, but its not that informative in a practical sense. The interviews with health professionals are good.

I would recommend it if your hubby doesn't know many other dads that he can chat with and if he is fairly interested in preparing for the new arrival. T If you are trying to get him interested then I'm not sure that this DVD will do it for you. Unless he really loves his beer and wants to be reassured that he can still drink it once he is a dad!

We also bought the DVD of "The Little Things" which was a show presented by Antonia Kidman for pay TV. This has probably been more useful for us in terms of providing practical info in easy to find segments from the DVD menu, so your hubby can choose the stuff he is interested in knowing more about - easier to sit through a 5 minute session than an hour long presentation. The "Father knows best" segments are very funny too.

I hope this helps with your decision! Best wishes.

if it's the one I'm thinking of, my friend actually was in the video! I still haven't watched it, but he rates it highly (I imagine he would). Still he is a great dad - just took 6 months off work to help look after his new son.

I bought this DVD for my brother in law ( he was clueless). He may still be clueless but at least it gave him an idea of what he's a going to go through.

I think he thought it was pretty funny as well.

Anything that gets them interested in what is going on with their partner is a good thing in my book.
