Hi all...

So DD will be 8 weeks old on Good Friday. For Easter we are going to my parents house, and spending Easter with my family (which is fine).

On Easter Saturday we also have my little brother's 21 birthday party, with extended family (aunts, cousins, grandparents) and family friends... Everyone will be dying to see DD and not so much hold her or anything like that, but definitely will all want to get close and have a "look". I'm scared someone will sneeze/cough (or even breath - lol) on her... My question is, should I get her needles done say on the Wednesday/Thursday before we go at 7 weeks, 5 or 6 days, or will she be too little and should I wait until after Easter? I kinda think she will be too little, but at the same time, I don't want her to get sick...

I have been told they will not do the needles before 8 weeks, and some places only do it once they hit the 2 month mark. The vax's won't protect her from the common cold which would be the main thing she might be exposed to at a party, in fact think in my very uneducated way, that their little immune systems take a bit of a battering when they get vaxxed. Don't panic about her being exposed to a lot of people, some say it is good for their immune systems and honestly, I think at least 50 different people held my bub in the first 6 weeks of her life (all friends and family - not just randoms in the street), and that is no exaggeration.

BTW, they won't be happy to just look at your bub, so you will need to be prepared for some sour looks if you aren't going to let people hold your bub.

Get her done after Easter and have a lovely time sharing her with your family. As others have said, Immunisations dont give her protection against the common cold, and flu whihc are the things your family are more likely to be carrying. Use your common sense, in that any family member who has a cough or cold, is to keep away from her, the others as long as they wash their hands pose little risk.

kirst85 - thanx.

domsgirl - thanx, i tend to agree with you... i won't mind family and extended family and some close friends holding her, but not my people i don't know (there will be some people there that i won't know, but that my parents and brother know)... the good thing is, if she gets upsets or cries, i can ask for her back, because she loves her mummy and will settle...

i will check with my CHN next week, just to see what the general consensus is...

Hi ,
My DS just had his 8wk immunisations and he is 11wks old. So you could wait until after Easter if you wanted to. But don't leave it too long, as one of the injections (can't remember which one) can't be administered too late. I only left it so long as i ended up having unplanned surgery :crying:

My DD had her 8 week needles at 6 weeks due to Christmas falling when she was 8 weeks.
A friends DS (a week older) had his done after Xmas/ New Years.

I don't think it matters either way whether it is early or late.

My DD had her 2 month immunisations at 7 weeks, 2 days . I was given the ok by her peadiatrician to have them done that early. With the whooping cough outbreaks recently, first immunisations could be done from 6 weeks.

This was just what I was going to say... My DD had hers done at our 6 week check up, because of the WC outbreak in my area. No problems, in fact, she took it a lot better than my DS did at any of his

After, there is an oral vaccine that they get which is a live vaccine. She may get slight gastro with in which case you don't want to go any where unless you really have to.

Need to make sure you are handwashing savvy after every nappy change. A lot of Dr.'s & CHN's forget to mention those details.

Pp mentioned it can't be done before 8 weeks, which is untrue.
NSW has 6 week vaccine' instead of 8 weeks due to a whooping cough out brake.

The same vaxx's are used nation wide.

As MJ said, i was pointing out that it is safe from 6 weeks of age.
