The soonest I can schedule my baby in to be circumcised is when he is 15 months old. My surgeon wouldn't do it before 6 months and prefers to wait as long as possible because older babies handle the anesthetic better. But in terms of recovery is 15 months getting a bit old? Has anyone here circumcised their bub that late (not using the plastibell method)? If so, what was the recovery like? I would have felt much better about doing it when he was younger and now I'm questioning whether to do it at all because it seems like the recovery might be much tougher on an older bub. Anyone?

Have you looked around for others? You should be able to find sometime to do it in a very short frame I would imagine.
What area are you in? PM if you wish.

Thanks Father, but I've already looked into it and there are only two options for circumcisions here. One is a doctor who only does babies up to 2 months (and DS was already 6 months old by the time we moved here) and the other is a pediatric surgeon. We booked in with her and DS was meant to be done next week, but due to a shortage of hospital beds the surgeon had to reschedule for the end of June. By then DS will be 15 months. The surgeon said thats even better as far as she is concerned because she prefers to wait as long as possible, but like I said I am now feeling that the recovery might be harder at that age.

I personally would still go for it. But see how you go with the details I gave you in the PM.
Good luck with it all. I'm sure he will cope with it fine.:)
I am not a doctor. This is just my opinion.
I had my son done before he was a week old because he can't move around and irritate the wound at that age.
If your kid is squirmy or rips off diapers . . . something to think about.

I imagine the pain and recovery would be similar at any age. At 15 months a child is more able to voice their discomfort and you will be less able to attribute any behavioural differences to something else, making the recovery harder on you. At least at 15 months they can say "ouch" and point so you will be able to medicate as required, more easily than in a young baby who communicates all their needs by crying.

I am not sure when it is best to be done but the main thing is that it gets done and it is not uncommon for boys of all ages to be having it done.
