What is Fengugreek??

Hi can anyone tell me what is Fengugreek, and where can i get it from?

fenugreek is a herb. generally used in cooking, but also used to increase milk supply. can be taken as tablets (if you can find them in a health food shop) or as a tea. doesn't taste the nicest but it is okay. you can either get it at a herb and spice shop, or from the health food shop, sold as a tea.

it needs to be decocted before drinking. it can also be mixed with fennel (another milk making herb) to make it taste nicer.

Fenugreek is a spice - it's little beige seeds.

You can get it whole or ground (looks like mustard). Look on any Masterfoods/etc rack in the supermarket.

The stuff smells like essence of health food shop - it can be hard finding anything to go with the flavour.

You can grow the whole seeds like alfalfa, if you want - though I have no idea if the sprouts will have whatever medicinal property the seeds are supposed to have. Just sprinkle them on a clean sponge in a dish of water on your windowsill.

All of the above but you can buy it in capsule form-Nature's Way is one company that makes it. This way you don't have to taste it although there is always a lingering curry smell! It is used for (according to the bottle) relieving irritation associated with mucous congestion, symptomatic relief of a sore throat and assisting to relieve mild upper respiratory tract complaints. But, despite all this, it is very beneficial (personal testimony available) in helping to increase milk supply. So, as a bonus, I haven't had a sore throat since I began taking it!:D

have a good read bout side effects before taking though, ive been taking it and my breasts hurt so bad I cant have my baby even brush up against them or its agony. has worked well to boost supply though. DD was struggling to gain weight and then i started taking them and shes gained 1.1kg in 2 weeks aged 5 weeks now

Did you buy 1000mg caps? If so take 1 cap 4 times a day for a week then the next week take 1 cap 3 times a day and slowly decrease as you think you are on top of it.
