Hi everyone,

I have just joined this forum so a a big hello from me.

Hubby and I are thinking about adopting locally but have been told you can't be undergoing IVF treatment at the same time. I understand the whole adoption process can take a year to get approved and then up to a few years or more to possibly adopt. Has anyone continued with IVf whilst still applying to adopt/waiting? I have heard lots of women still undergo IVF on the quiet whilst waiting for the adoption process. Does anyone know if they go through and check your medical records or is the docs info that you have to provide enough? I am worried we would get in trouble/found out if we did continue with IVF whilst going through the process. We don't plan to continue with IVF once we got approved to adopt just whilst we are waiting so to speak.

Ohhhh I really hope this post isn't too long winded and makes sense. I would dearly love to know your thoughts/experiences if you have time to reply.

Thanks!

Daisy

Hi there,

When I looked into adoption in Queensland, they told me that there are no checks until further into the process (which could take up to a year), so they were well aware that many couples kept pursuing IVF during the initial stages of application for adoption.

It may be different in different states though.

Hope that helps!

Hi Daisy
My hubby and I are almost at the end of our local adoption application. In the beginning we were also doing IVF on the side quietly. Its strange, when we went to adoption seminar alot of the other couples said 'there is no way you can do IVF and adoption process at the same time because it is just so stressful'. I sniggered at the time and thought 'oh dont be silly, it will be fine'. But you know what? I think they were all right. The adoption process is soooo long and full on and stressful and it really takes all that you have to get through it. Its a tough road. I just pray we get approved at the end. The only thing that I would say is that there is a very thorough medical report that your dr must complete and it asks about your infertility and treatment etc, so just be mindful of that if you decide to do both. I wish you the very best of luck for your journey :)

Thanks Col26!

Yes I can imagine it's hard work trying to do both! It's hard enough thinking about it. I guess it is more just the wait and not wanting to not be doing 'something' while everything is getting processed. I really hope you get approved and are placed with a child soon.

Daisy :)
