DS seems to be constantly sick this winter. He gets over one flu or cold or cough or chest infection & then he's caught another. He seems to catch everything that goes around at childcare. He's 19mths old. Just wondering if this is normal. I just hate seeing him sick:gloomy:.

I don't remember DS being sick in his first year either:confused:. But he didn't start childcare until he was 13mths. Thought about taking him out of c/c but got another bub due in 6 weeks & have lots of ob appointments & also find it hard to keep up with him all day everyday (don't have any family around). Besides he loves going. Don't know what to do.

DS has never been sick, although like Billie&Beth's bub, he doesn't go to childcare yet (he just turned 12 months). Maybe you can give him vitamin C drops or multivitamins, just to reinforce his immunity. :)

  same

My DD is 10 months and hasn't been sick either, probably if she had a lot more contact with other kiddies (like childcare) she might have though......

We've got a doctors apt this afternoon so will have to ask about some suppliments. How old do they usually have to be to take these?

DS is 4. I didn't start him on it until a few months back and I purchased them from the health store. They are great, shaped in robots and in a good flavour that he likes and wont spit out or complain about. Replacing apple juice with orange juice should help too I've heard. Best of luck at the appointment. For under 1 , I wouldn;t be to sure. But bear in mind, most kids, before school age, might get all the different types of colds/flues imaginable :banghead:

I've also heard that there's some sort of stuff you can make at home to rub on the soles of their feet. It's supposed to work wonders. Does anybody know about this?

Same here! We went on holiday to Perth at the beginning of June and since we have been back ds has been nothing but sick, sick, sick. It has just been one thing after another. He was finally well for about a week, then his nose started running yestrday:banghead: It is driving me crazy!! I have barely been to mother's group because I don't want to pass it around, but it seems that each time I do go that is when he picks something up - there is one child in particular who always has a runny nose and I think that's where it is coming from:thumbsdown: I know they can pick these things up anywhere but it coincides every time.
I will be glad to finally pack the vaporiser away, stop dishing out the panandol and demazin like they are water, for my house to smell like something other than eucalyptus, to no longer have a tissue shoved up my sleeve and to get some decent nights sleep!!!!

my son spent a year sick, with febral convulsions, pnuemonia twice, croup twice, bronchilitis, and scarlet fever, requiring hospitalisation on a number of occasions. this was between the year of him being 1 and 2. since than he has barely been sick at all. a small cold last year was it. im thinking he must be immune to heaps having been so sick as a baby.im not complaing

Hmmm...maybe my DS will get it all out of his system & build up his immune system so so that he won't be sick at all next year? I hope so. Might be a good thing after all with the new baby coming along:fingerscrossed:.

Liam had a runny nose for a day or two, and that was it!

he doesn't go to daycare though so less chances of catching something.

DD has had 3 colds and a long bout of Bronchitis. She's just getting over this now.
Strangley, this all happened after she stopped breastfeeding 2 months ago...I wonder if it's somehow related....before that she only ever had one cold in her first year of life.

hi:) :)

it feels like my youngest has been sick all of winter. my eldest has had the edge of this flu thing a few times but it hasn't turned into anything so far. hopefully it won't. even i have been sick for approx 4weeks. this winter has probably been my families worst so far.

My son is 12months old, and he was sick when he was 10 days old with the flu, as i was really sick, (low immune system and prone to iffections, illness :ecomcity: ). Since then he has only been sick once from the flu, and he got a virus just recently, but they never last long.....

He doesnt go to daycare, and i dont have any friends with kids, and my partner and I rarely get sick........so I dont know where he picks it up from....

DD hasn't been sick at all this winter. She also doesn't do to childcare, so I think that is a big factor.

Thanks guys. I feel a little better knowing I'm not alone. Doctor said pretty much what has become evident from this thread - that if toddlers have contact with other kids they are bound to get sick alot more & there's not much that can be done. Have got him some vitamins though (Incremin) & am considering taping his shoes & socks to his feet:laughing:. Hope all your kiddies are feeling better.:)
