Hi all,
My 14 month old DS has been teething since the start of FEb, since then he has cut 3 molars 2 canines (only the top and bottom left ones). The last right top molar is coming thru now and I think the last 2 canines on the right are getting ready.. He has been waking during the night most nights, with only a night or so when he will sleep through.

My question is how much panadol/ nurofen is too much?? We have been giving him panadol evry night with a few nights break, and have recently started giving him nurofen. We dont give him anything during the day. Im just worried we r giving him too much. What else can we do?? Im exhausted!!! and so is he!!!

O man I feel your pain! My 13 month old is going through this as well. I personally use homoeopathics, there are a few you can choose from, I am getting good results from chammomilla pillules, but have in the past used brauers teething relief, and some people swear by the hylands teething pills. The good thing about homoeopathics is they are harmless at worst, and very effective at best, so I try them as a first line of defence, an if NOTHING else works, then Panadol is my last resort.

PERSONALLY I wouldn't be giving panadol/nurofen that often, but sometimes you just have to do what works if they are in pain like that.

But yeah, perhaps try some natural remedies first, so you can hopefully use the panadol/nurofen more sparingly.

All the best :)

When DS is teething I have been doing a combo - we are still waiting for more teeth he keeps getting all the symptoms including the fact that I can feel the darn things but still no dice :hair:. oops sorry OT.
I have been trying the Hylands teething tablets plus teething gel the if that doesn't help after a while and he is still very cranky I go the nurofen option - there was a stage there when DS was ending up with Nurofen most nights (but not during the day) - I keep remembering mums DR telling her that panadol is not the worst thing in the world if bub needs it then give it - not to say you should be giving it all day everyday or anything but you know what I mean.

When dd was teething, i tried everything but nothing seemed to work (never thought of nurofin and panadol at once). After almost a month of no sleep and a screaming toddler, I asked my gp. he said giver the standard dose for age and weight of panadol, then an hour later, the standard dose for age and weight of nurofin and keep repeating until dd settled and stayed settled.

Most of the natural rememdies gave dd a really upset stomach and made her quite sick. And i found panadol and nurofin on their own or with bojela just didnt help enuf.

Hope u get some relief soon!!

Really depends what doctor you ask - I have had 2 tell me that nurofen should be avoided unless there is a huge risk to the child. One actually showed me his medical textbook and the blurb on nurofen and it was enough to scare me off the stuff.

I always used the hylands teething tablets and the sm33 gel - seemed to work for my kids.

To be honest I think you are using too much (but then again I am not a fan of panadol or nurofen) - how many doses a night??

Thanks heaps guys for ur advice...
Have only been giving him one dose per night. I have been feeling uneasy about giving him nurofen, so im just gonna go with my gut and stop using nurofen. I will probably only use panadol on really bad days and give hylands teething tablets or chammomilla pillules a try. Any ideas on where i would find them???

Most chemists have the teething tablets - get the sm33 gel as well - 10 times better than that other one everyone uses (can't remember the name)

To much is when you exceed the daily does in a 24 hour period & more than you feel comfortable giving.

For us, panadole & Nurophen are the only things that work. My kids are used to morphine & the like so teething tablets etc dont work.
