So March 1 I gave birth to my beautiful daughter, I am a first time mum and was terrified of labour as I had a rough pregnancy. But labour was fast, natural and easier than what I had expected!!
A week later I'm at my GP due to excruciating pain on my right side.. I was told to go straight to emergancy. Fastforward: on Tuesday I went into surgery to have my appendix removed, they did 3 keyholes on my left side saw a perforated appendix wedged under my bowel so they had to do a cut on my right side and remove the appendix and pas. Its now friday and I'm still here, they detached my drips, drain, oxygen and morpine machine yesterday and felt better! Was able to shower and everything. But woke up today with sore right side, sharp pain on my right shoulder wen I take deep breathes. Could it be because I don't have strong painkillers now?
Anyway share your story if you had your appendix out.
I hope to go home today I miss my daughter! :(
Awww! :hugs: Sounds like you have had a big couple of weeks! Congratulations on your daughter :goodvibes:
I had my appendix out when I was 6 and they didnt have the keyhole surgeries then so I had an incision on the right hand side of my stomach. I had to walk on my tip toes for a little while but didnt get the shoulder pain. I woke up in pain in the middle of the night, my made me a hot water bottle to try and help. By lunch time the next morning I was in so much pain Mum took me to emergency who took me straight in for surgery as my appendix was not far away from bursting! It was removed and I enjoyed being a 6 year old that was only allowed to eat jelly and icecream haha!
I believe the shoulder pain is actually from the keyhole surgery due to the Co2 gas they put into your stomach cavity so that they can see what they are doing. They cant get all of the gas back out so sometimes it rises up the body and presses on nerves that cause pain in the shoulder. Your body will eventually absorb it all or you will breathe it all out.
Wishing you a quick recovery and that you get home to your baby girl soon :hugs:

I had mine out when I was just 7yrs old. I was being baby sat by my nan who just thought I was sick. I was in terrible pain all afternoon and she didnt phone my mum to come get me until the evening as I couldnt stop crying with the pain. They took me to the GP who said take me straight to the hospital. I remember my mum crying in the car she was so afraid. By the time I got there, my appendix had already burst and they didnt know if I was gong to survive. I nearly died that night.
I have a massive scar on the right side of my tummy as they were in such a rush there was no time for tiny careful cuts, my scar is about 15cm long.
Im 32 now, and only recall bits n pieces, but the main thing i remember is in the hospital there was a nasty mean nurse (well being 7 I thought she was, lol) who tried to move me on my side but it was os painful I asked her to stop but she wouldnt. So, I punched her in the stomach as hard as I could. I never saw that nurse again LOL:laughing: I had a nice nurse after that!

Haha I wish I was a kid when that happened. Its hard now esp after labour. Its like a csec lol.
I wonder when I will fully recover?
Oh an bl0ody painkiller making me constipated :(
I had mine out when I was 18.
All I remember was that I was at a friends party, then I was walking home and was in pain all of a sudden and vomiting black stuff.
I crashed into bed, mum called my GP to do a home visit, the next thing I was in hospital and going into theatre.
There was no keyhole surgery back then, so I have a big cut on my right side. The surgeon did a dodgy stitch up job....actually not stitches, but staples  and it got infected and went keyloid.
I had to get the staples removed and restitched.
Then after that, I had to get Quarterzone (sp?) injections to remove all the scar tissue.
Now at 32, I still have a lumpy scar that turns purple when I get cold
Shoulder pain is usually due to the gas they blow your abdomen up with in the keyhole surgery part. It just hurts there. Hot packs are really the only thing that works for it. Unless you can lay on your tummy with your head lower than your feet.
Good luck
Hi
Sorry to hear you've been through this. You must be missing your little one like crazy.
I agree with the PP. My DD whose 11 had her appendix out in January by keyhole and did get the shoulder pain. The docs said it was because of the gas and they actually explained it to us before the surgery and told us it may happen and not to freak.
Hope you are better and home soon
