as many bub hubbers who frequent this part of bub hub would know my ds1 is lactose intolerant and cant have soy or dairy. he reacts to as little as 2%dairy or soy in commercial foods.
recently he has reacted to strawberries and broke out in eczema then it cleared up once he didnt eat them again.
then he broke out in eczema again after his first encounter with his colgate my first toothpaste :(
and last night he reacted to salmon i had some sushi and left it on my plate when i went to the loo and i thought he couldnt reach it anyway came back, ds had gobbled the rice part down (it was the sushi with the raw fish and rice on bottom) and he spent half the night up crying in pain and generally unwell :( and he has eczema again! just when he started to have it clear up after the toothpaste.
:banghead: just dont know what to do anymore, he seems to be reacting to so much stuff.

:hugs: so sorry jessgray...I know how it must feel, having had some serious bouts as a child and then having them sporadically as an adult. It's irritating, frustrating, uncomfortable, and expensive having allergies to all kinds of stuff!!! I have several nephews and nieces who have it bad. My DS also gets rashes occasionally on his cheeks. I just found out he is allergic to mangoes. :( My BIL sometimes has to chase my niece, put the medicine on her weeping legs and put cling wrap on it so she won't scratch the rashes. It is that bad!!!
Maybe you can take bub to see a specialist? I just saw my allergist again today and everything is going well. I'm still on my wheat, dairy and nuts elimination diet but hey, he's just added corn and oats to stuff I CAN eat! Wheeeew! Not to worry, he says by Christmas I can eat everything.
So, maybe it would be worth it in the long run? A bit costly but... I can imagine how bad you must feel seeing your little one suffer. It's a vicious cycle that can be so frustrating as well. I used to see dermatologists all the time...but I think this time, with the allergist, the problem will be stopped at the source.
Well, I'm here if you need to vent. :)

where would i go to get a referal to an allergist? a gp? i dont have private health cover so would there be ones available in the public system that are covered by medicare?
i can just imagine walking thinking alright he has this many allergies (count them on one hand) and i walk out and ds has a page full or something lol me and DP try not to stress to much about it we joke that ds needs a bubble :Dit lightens the mood a bit.
the only foods ds has never reacted to are: tomato sauce, vegimite, apple, pear, avacado and rice and meats like beef and chicken.
everything else is a bit unknown.

Well, just look at it this way, your bub is challenging your culinary skills. :) It'll certainly make you creative in the kitchen!!! It definitely has made me.
I think the best thing to do is ask your GP about it. My GP recommended this very good allergist and also gave me the referral. As for the medicare question, best to ask your GP about it. My family is on private health.
I know the bubble joke :D I've said that a couple of times about myself. It makes DH laugh.
Hope your GP knows a good allergist. It really is worth knowing once and for all what your little one is sensitive to. Hope things get better for your beautiful baby. :hugs:

:) thanks i hope we can see an allergist too.
i took the day off tafe today coz i spent pretty much all night up with ds. he has broken out in eczema again and he was vomiting and then he had an asthma attack (i am glad his ventalin was enough and we didnt need to go to emergency)
the only way i could calm him down last night was to sit there watching telly with him laying across my lap and rubing soberlene cream on to his back and arms and legs :( it seemed like he was in alot of pain so DP gave him panadol and it didnt really help :(
can an allergy trigger an asthma attack?DP is worried it means DS could be anaphylatic to something but a asthma attack wouldnt mean that ?

Hi my DS has a few allergies and had eczema and has asthma. When we lived interstate the eczema was really bad and DS was always scratching i got an antihistamine called polaramine it helped him to sleep better and helped with the scratching. I took DS to a ped and got him allergy tested with ref from dr. Costs over $200 but you get over $100 back through medicare. Hope some of this helped.

Hi jess :)
Yes your bub will be prone to asthma if he has eczema. Samuel's pedia told me to watch out for this occurence because Samuel gets skin asthma (eczema is also skin asthma) and kids that have this are more prone to asthma attacks. So when we travelled to the Uk for christmas, to be on the safe side, we brought a baby inhaler and Ventolin.
Also, just FYI, do you have Cody immunised? If you do, don't forego of the chicken pox immu. When we were in the UK, Samuel's cousin got chicken pox and everyone was telling us to just let him get it from her so he'll be over it. Well, I called his pedia first and she said, absolutely not to do this. If he catches chicken pox, because he is prone to asthma attacks, he can have respiratory complications. So even if a lot of people are not too sure about the chicken pox immu, I'm definitely having Samuel jabbed with it.
I hope his eczema gets better and yur doc's appointment goes well.

i cant get cody immunised for the chicken pox because of PRedmix its his emergency asthma medication :( if he gets the vax it can cause a really bad case of the chicken pox. i did plan on getting it for him but now cant after researching it :( he has had all the other vax's though.
:( DS looks so red right now. and he cant sleep.

oh no! :hugs: so sorry to hear that. well good thing you've done your research re his medication.
Hmmm... its such a no win situation really... with the chicken pox and asthma thing...you'll just have to keep him away from kids who have it.
Right now, make sure he is unable to scratch. wear long sleeved shirts and rock him so he is soothed... don't know jess, maybe a quick trip to the docs for some soothing cream. if you are unable to go to an allergist right away, maybe ask for a dermatologist referral instead. they can certainly give him something more soothing for his eczema, even an oral anti-itch medicine?

Usually antihistamines work on the itch and can also help bub's sleep.

Your poor littel guy........:hugs: to you both! Just wanted to mention that I am awaiting an appointment at the allergy clinic at The Royal Childrens (Melb). This is where my gp thought would be best. Might be another option to seeing a private allergist. Good Luck!!
