DF and I have been TTC for 4 months and the first month I got pregnant and lost (chemical pregnancy) it a few days after having a positive blood test.
I went to a fertility specialist to get DF and I checked out and he suggested I try clomid as I have irregular cycles and ovulate somewhere between day 15 and day 24. He said the clomid will ensure I ovulate in a specific time frame, which sounds good as I wont have to guess when Im ovulating.
Im worried about the side effects and am wondering how bad they really are? We are undecided on when we will start the Clomid and that is mainly because of the side effects.
Also wondering how long it took to get pregnant while using Clomid?
I am also wondering if Clomid improves the quality of the egg produced?
I used Clomid b/c I have pcos and don't ovulate at all. But I'm going on a whim and feel the fact he says you will ovulate on a specific day instead of the days you do, isn't true. I ovulated on a 34 day cycle the first time, and the next 2 months varied from 32 to 38? You can't predict how your body and hormones will react. I had to constantly check on an ov stick and get scanned every few days which cost money. I also had to get scanned each time to check I didn't have more than 2 mature eggs at a time (incase of multiples) and other issues involved with over stimulation. But as for side-effects, for me, it felt like I was having a bad period and lots of pms beforehand, I also had ovulation pain. But thats it, no real bad side-effects. (I also got pg 3rd month)
I will be using it again next time because it worked the first time, but I won't be getting scanned this time(so annoying), I'll go blind and dtd every 2-3 days for the months I'm on clomid, I feel confident I won't over-stimulate or have an issue.
Thats my experience with clomid, but yours might be completey different. Good Luck :)

Thanks for your reply.
I have had some cycles in the past where I dont think I ovulated at all because I didnt get AF for a few months although wasn't ttc at that time. I think this is why hes putting me on the clomid so I will definitely ovulate. I thought he said i take it day 5-10 then will ovulate about 5 days after the last tablet. Im glad I know now that everyone is different because I thought it was just all going to happen like he said :o
Also, he didnt say anything about monitoring me. Ill have to wait until my next appointment (when I get the script) and see if he wants to monitor me.

I've done 7 cycles of clomid and I had hot flushes, moodiness and O pains. But everyone is different when taking clomid.
I would consistently O between CD14 - CD16 with 1 cycle I o'd on CD23.
So reading what you wrote about what your DR said about Oing between certain CD's is correct for me anyway. I had long cycles it was on average about a 35 day cycle.
Yeah I took it from day 5-10 and was also told to go back on day 13 for a scan to check if an egg was maturing. I was getting scanned mainly b/c to check if they were actually working incase i would try a higher dose and also to make sure no more than 1 had matured. If there was 2 or more there, I would have scrapped that cycle b/c I don't deliberately want multiples due to a higher chance of complications. So I had to go and get scanned 3 times before the egg he was checking fully developed and was then told I would ov in 2-3 days and to start dtd.
So this cycle changed for me everymonth, I never ov at the same time each month, so I was constantly checking.
I think scanning is important to check if it's working, you could just take ov stick tests but I'm not sure how effective it is to know what's happening, but I trust your dr knows what they're doing, sorry, I wasn't questioning your decision or your dr to take clomid, just that it's not as predictable as they'd like to believe.
I was seeing Dr Lyndon Hale at Melbourne IVF, he was fantastic and thorough and explained everything really well, and he does all the scans in his office. I'm assuming most fertility specialists do the same?

I forgot to add that I never had ultrasounds only a BT on day 21. And then in the last 3 months no monitoring at all. I was taking mine from CD2-CD6.
It depends on if your seeing a gyno or an IVF specialist as to the scans done in house or not.
When I had my appointment with QFG I had a scan done in his office but nothing at my Gyno.
If its only four months you have been trying and you have already been pregnant in that time I would leave it a while before trying fertility drugs.
I used clomid for three cycles and the mood swings were horrendous. I did not fall pregnant when on it.
BTW Jon and Kate plus 8s kids were conceived using it. I saw her talking about it once and she had barely been trying when she used it but got impatient and now thinks she probably did not need it.

Thanks ladies.
Zultbear - how long were you taking it before you got pregnant?
Mybabyleo - i dont know if my FS does the scans but will ask about that at my next appointment.
Amara - im not sure why my FS is keen for me to try the Clomid so soon. Ive had blood tests which dont indicate any hormonal problems. I think he wants me to take it because my cycles are irregular in length and some cycles I have not ovulated for months at a time.

I started in July 09 and haven't had a break. So 7 cycles in a row. On my 7th cycle it was CD3 I had laparoscopy. It was this last cycle that I fell (cycle 7).
We were about to start IUI this month.
