Hi. I posted this in another section a week or so ago then realised I should have posted it here.
I had my first baby 11 months ago via c-section because he was breech. Now I am pregnant again and want another c-section but I am worried the hospital is going to push for a VBAC.
They can try and railroad me all they want but they will not be able to convince me to try for a VBAC.
What I'm worried about though is that they'll just refuse point blank to do a caesarean and force me into a VBAC that way. Is it likely they'll do that? I asked them over the phone and they wouldn't give me an answer. My first antenatal appointment with them isn't for a few weeks. Its Tweed hospital if anyone has any experience with them....
You should be fine to say you want another c-section.
Ive never heard of a hospital pushing for a vbac only ever that they arent that great at supporting those that do want a VBAC!

I just had my first baby 3 weeks ago at Tweed hospital (emergency c-section) and I can honestly say I was very disapointed with the care I received at the antenatal clinic. However Once I was in the maternity ward the care was fantastic! I don't believe they will push you for a VBAC seeing as your last C-section was only 11 months ago, they risk too much (this may be your only saving grace) as I never had my wishes listened too or met and as I knew it would my birth resulted in an emergency c-section anyways. Be firm with what you want! I'm interested to hear how your first appointment goes and what they say as with my next baby I too am not comfortable in a VBAC. Good luck:)

trust me, i don't think you will have any problem with getting a repeat c/s. theres only 20.5 months difference between my dd and this baby that is due any second now, hospital didn't blink when they saw that i was under the "2 year guideline" when i told them i was birthing vaginally this time so they won't be using that to give you a repeat.

If I was a betting woman, i would bet you get your CS. Ob's prefer you not to get pregnant within 12 months of a CS. So you are more likely to have a rupture during VBAC. Therefore you would probably be considered in the 'high risk' category for VBAC = CS.
I am not an expert and I am sure a middy will jump on and correct me if I'm wrong :p

I have known several women who had CS' with their first birth and were not given the option of a repeat CS without a reason for their second as public patients. One of my colleagues fell pregnant before her first was 3 months old and was still told to VBAC with her second.
I think you will find it depends on your hospital and area health service it falls into, the OB in charge and whether you are a public or private patient
:wave:Hey Miss sixx,
I had a c-section wit both of my babies. My 1st he was breech n then wit my second i wanted another c-section. They never pushed me to go natural. You should have no worries, just tell them straight up and they will follow what you would like to do. :) but yes, could b different at differnt hospitals, states ect.
I wouldn't worry as I have the same opinion stated above hospitals are more fans of performing c/s after c/s rather than VBACs.
i was at a public hospital, and was urged to go with a vbac, however in the end it was my choice. after 1 ceaser u are should be given the choice, after 2, i was told there would be no choice.

They cannot force you into do a VBAC after csection it is completly and totally your choice! I think most doctors prefer a repeat csection anyways as it is less risk.

 I would hope they cant force you to have either!
I think a lot of doctors are uncomfortable with VBACs though, so a repeat c-section *should* be an easy thing to obtain.

I had to have a cs with DS2 and really wanted another one for DD. My ob was reluctant and tried to convince me at every appointment that a vbac would be fine, but in the end he left the decision up to me and I got my cs. I think most ob's are pretty good about it, but I have heard of some who don't give the choice  I would try to get some straight answers from your ob and if the answer is no and it's something you feel really strongly about then perhaps look into having your bub elsewhere. Good luck!

It is not less risky, c section is a more managed risk, but certainly not less risky than VBAC.
To the OP they should let you do whatever you want, it should be what you are most comfortable with, I'd be extremely suprised if a hospital 'forced' you to have a VBAC.

Hi there,
I had a emergency c/section with my first and i chose to have a vbac with my second but found that they would have preffered me to have a c/section for my second.
My vbac was unsuccessful anyway and had ended up having another c/section but from my experience they don't try to push you to have a vbac at all all i got towards the end was all the major risks associated having a vbac.
No You are given the option, as there is a low risk in vbac also, so its all up to you. They should give you info on both anyway so you can make the right decision before your due date. I think the only way you aint allowed to vbac if they aint supportive of it at that hospital or you have a medical condition making it even more risky. I'm in the process of deciding which option to take at the moment. Oh and I'm with public!

No they cant not refuse to allow you to have a second csection it is entriely your decison. They will give all the information on repeat csections or a vbac and allow you to make the choice with way way you want to go, i personally chose to have a repeat csection as the risks involved with a vbac were a bit scary Ie: uterine rupture, death to you or baby, hyssterocetomy etc- though apparently these risks are very low still i figured i had already had one csection and knew what to expect i already had a scar so what the heck i my as well have another csection, plus my first baby was big 9 and half pounds and we thought it may have become distressed as he couldnt fit thru my pelvis, so if you tend to have bigger babies you may want to opt fro the repeat csection.

While VBAC is prefered by those who practice evidence-based care, due to the fact that it is safer for mother and baby, if you have had a previous caesarean, you have the right to choose an elective caesarean second time around.
