View Full Version : low haemoglobin levels
hi all i had a midwife check up today im 35 weeks preg with my 3rd bub everything was normal than i got a phone call once i got home cause she couldnt find my blood test results and she told me i have low haemoglobin levels and have to take iron tablets.
so im just wondering is there any risks to my bub from having these low haemoglobin levels???
hope someone can give me some answers
i had this with my first bub, it was found really early with me, and was on iorn tablets daily and towards the end was also given vitamin B injections. from what i was told, its a risk to mum and bub during labour as it increases length of it, and therefore increases stress to the unborn bub, and often results in c-sections. also means that bub is taking all the iorn that you are getting from your diet, plus more, and you will be exhausted even more then the average mum, wich contributes to pnd.
this time for me so far i have kept my iorn at an ok level, but have been taking iorn from the time i was 3 weeks preg (the day after i found out). but i am only 25 weeks so we will see.
there shouldnt be any real side affects on the bub, but it is best for you and bub in the long run if you take the iorn. my levels were still low when i gave birth to my son and the labour was almost 3 days they said it was more then likely the iorn issues.
hope this helps you out

I have severely low iron and platelets during pregnancy. I was refused an epidural because of my levels so be prepared that some hospitals will refuse you if you are wanting one it just depends on the hospital policies.
I am not aware of any issues relating to bub as i have been told this only affects me and doesnt affect bubs, as long as you're taking your iron and they arent concerned there shouldnt be any issues at all. I take Fefol and i take it with OJ or you can take it with vitamin C tabs for better absorbtion but beware you may have to get some metamucil to counteract the constipation!!
