Give ds 1 bottle of a different formula at night? He is on NAN HA during the day and that is going really well for him but I am finding he is waking a fair bit through the night and starting the day at around 5am which I am not a fan of...
So I was thinking of trying Novalac Sweet Dreams formula just for his night feed to see if it will help becauase the NAN HA digests quickly. But I don't know if it would upset him to mix formulas even if it's just 1 bottle?

Basically it's up to you.
Nan HA has hydrolised proteins meaning thatthe cows milk protein has treated so that (according to some studies) there is less likelyhood of bubs developing an allergy or intolerance to cows milk protein. I'm not sure that Novalc Sweet Dreams has this.
Nan HA also has its proteins consisting mostly of the whey componant, which is more like breast milk and easier for babies to breakdown and digest. Novalac Sweet dreams is a casin dominant formula, casin being harder to break down so in theory baby feels more satisfied and may sleep longer. ( Another casin based formula is Lactogin, and also I think SMA) Many babies do really well on these formulas, others have a lot of wind and or constipation..but the same can be said for any change of formula.
How your baby tolerates any formula is an individual thing. Some babies can seemingly drink anything with no noticiable issues, others are best with one in particular. It is a matter of trial and error, and the general rule is if you find one that your baby is doing well on then don't swap and change as then you never know what changes in bubs are formulas related and which might be a problem with bubs. Potentially bub's gut may not cope with the switch between whey dominant to casin dominant every evening... or they may be one of those bubs who seems unaffected.
Also keep in mind that the "sweetdreams" name is very clever advertising on behalf of the formula company. Preying on parents lack of sleep and desparation. There IS no garentee that it will make any difference.
Having said all of that. It is all just trial and error. So if you think its worth a go, try and see what happens. It could be the best thing you do, it could be a total waste of money.
The worst that may happen is baby may get extra wind or constitpation.. in theory by not being a HA formula there is a slightly higher chance of sensitisation to cows milk protein.
On the otherhand you may start getting the best nights sleeps yet.

Thanks for that, hmm trial and error is always the answer for formulas, but it's true lol. I guess I'll just have to give it a try and hope it's the best night's sleep and not the worst.

Maybe you could try the normal NAN full time and see how that goes?
Mixing formulas isnt generally recommended, and if bub is under 6 months, its quite normal to wake for feeds during the night.
