hi everyone, hope this finds every1 in the best of moods:smiliedance:
Anyway, my friend my daughter (Maia 5months) a jooly jumper the other day and she loves it. But since she got i have been hearing things about them not being good for legs.
I was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on the subject or if any one has had any bad experience with them?
Cheers:detective:
I am so glad i found this site i was starting to lose my mind being a SAHM.:p

It is actually their spines that they are not good for. It places alot of strain on the spine and at such a young age can do some damage. Some babies who are placed in devices such as these, walk late, and also have problems with their spines later in life. Physio therapist absolutley HATE them, along with walkers and other play centres that place the child in the same postitions. This can cause spinal compression too. I personaly think all these devices are death traps... but once again, just my opinion.

There are so many do's and dont's to do for your child. Personaly my ds loved it and he is 16months old and everything is ok with him. Ill be using it with bub no 2 aswell. Its your personal choice. imo

i couldn't live without the jolly jumper, especially when i had DS#1. i personally think it helped with his development by strengthening his legs - he was crawling at 6 months, standing at 8 months, walking along furniture at 9 months. with DS#2 he doesn't spend as much time on the jolly jumper (probably half of what DS#1 did), he is 9 months next week & he isn't crawling.

So long as their not in it for extended periods it's really not a problem. I think it's reccomended to only keep them in there for about 20 minutes at a time.
My boys were spewy bubs so they couldn't be in there longer than 10 minutes at a time, but they loved it.

My DS loved it!! (That was until he could crawl!). I only allowed him to be in it for 15 minutes max per day. :)

My only experience with them is that a friend has used one with both her sons and both of them have had problems with their ankles and walking etc. The eldest actually had to have calipers on for 6 months to correct the problems. Related to the jolly jumper? Can't say... but in my opinion it is something our family can do without.
We tried one with DS at the Baby Show recently and we left it too late anyway.. he's walking along furniture and has been for 3 or more months and he hated being restrained.

It's only dangerous if you put the baby in the jolly jumper and then then walk away. You have to sit right there with them ready to catch them in case the JJ falls out of the doorway (even though it's unlikely). Plus you're only s'posed to have baby in it for 10 minutes at a time to prevent any back strain etc. My little fellow loves it!

I don't have one but I remember having great fun in one as a little kid! A clinic nurse told us it could result in toe walking but was probably ok to use if it is adjusted so that when bub is in it, they are flat on their feet with their legs a little bent (so that they aren't jumping around on their toes) and if bub isn't left in it for long periods of time.

I was just like this as a baby! Apparently I loved my jolly jumper and I was walking at 10 months. We'll definitely be buying one and can't wait to see our baby bouncing in it

This toe walking thing is what happened to my friends two boys. As per earlier post.
