Just wondering what your thoughts are on the cheap umbrella strollers?

We're travelling interstate by plane with DS in a couple of weeks and I thought if we got one of the el-cheapo umbrella strollers then we could take it with us on the plane and it would be less hassle and less bulky than our normal pram (which isn't very big anyway).

BigW have an umbrella stroller for about $30 - what are they like? I thought it might be handy to have one thrown in the boot with our normal pram and then if it's just going to be a quick trip into the shops I could just pull out the stroller instead. DH will freak if I spend too much so I'm after your cheap recommendations.

Cheers

If thats all you're using it for just from looking at it I think the BigW one would do perfectly! I wouldnt want to use it long term though, it doesnt look very sturdy!

You could always look on ebay and for a similar price as a BigW flimsy one, pick up a better quality but second hand one?

Hate them, hate them, hate them!!!!

The wheels don't go straight, on some floor surfaces, they wont turn corners. Handles are far too low which doesn't help if you are taller than 5ft. And they have no basket either.

JMO :) lol

i was also going to get one of the cheap ones for the same reason but I ended up getting one around $100 as it was much more sturdy, more comfortable for DS to sit in, plus it layback so at night time if we wanted to go out for dinner he could at least doze off in it...even the one we got I wouldnt want to use for lots of walking as they are much more tiring to steer and you keep kicking the wheels, so if you can afford more I would go for a slightly better one as its probably worth it in the long run. THe one we got was a Steelcraft I think, and it was fine on the plane, it weight about 5kg and we just checked it in when we arrived at the gate

I brought a Bertini Dusk upright stroller for $80, I would highly recommend those.

If you have time to wait for a sale you can get a good deal. Target had $80 ones we got for $40, much better than the Big W. Ours is really easy to manouvure one handed and as there is very little basket space underneath you can't carry too much. My mum actually bought it for somewhere for DS to sit at her place - cheaper than a highchair. Took it with us when we moved interstate and it is a life saver for the short trips out. I leave it in the car with the bigger does everything pram and can use whichever is more appropriate.
With ebay you can get a good deal but be careful as the postage is usually heaps and you would be better off spending more and buying new.
Check out vinnies stores. Or better still have a look for the next Baby & Kids Market in the "Events Calendar".

We have just bought a Safety First Quicksmart. It's one of those 3 wheeled, fold up jobbies that can fold into a bag. We got it for our trip overseas, it's only 4kg and can fit into an overhead compartment. I took DS for a walk in it the other day and it was great. They don't lie down though, that's the only setback.

We have the $30 Big W one for when we don't feel like lugging the pram or going somewhere it isn't practical. It's fine for this purpose, and they fold down to nothing so that'd be great on a plane
For 30 bucks you really can't knock it LOL.

I f you have a Toys R Us close to you I would suggest having a look there. They always have them on special there. I got one for $10, hardly ever use it but for $10 who cares, it serves a purpose and was worth it.

I got one by Infanti, quite light, about 7kg and it can recline so bub can have a snooze. It's very sturdy as I've taken it to some gravel road and it survived. It also has a basket underneath for small amount of shopping. We've taken it to a few overseas trip and it worked perfectly. think brand new cost about $80. You might be able to get a second hand on ebay for half that.
Hope this help
