I was wondering if anyone knows how to teach a 19mth old the difference between "its still time to sleep" and "its ok to get up now".

DS has been in his own bed for about a 6 weeks now, he goes to sleep at 7.30/8 no problems...he still wakes up between 1-3 times a night and comes into our room. He generally wakes anywhere between 5-7.

Is he just too young for a bed maybe? DH doesnt want to try the closed door or barrier option....is there any other way???

I have a 2 year old who was put in a bed at 18 mths. We used to just keep putting him back into his own roomover and over again and it finally clicked. Ans when he used to cry to get out we say it's night time and you need to sleep. He sleeps from 8pm-8am. If we try to put him to sleep too early he wakes too early. He knows how to open the door but have perservered with keeping him in his room. I always tell him nap time is coming up and he never fights just lays down with his dummy and blanket and goes to sleep.
Good luck

I don't know if this will help at all, but recently when I was surfing the bump to 3 website I came across this really cute first alarm clock - you set it to a certain time and the bunny opens his eyes at that time. So your toddler can look at the bunny to see - If it has its eyes closed, its still sleep time, but when he has his eyes open, its okay to get up. i thought it was cute!
