View Full Version : Stay at home mum's & offcampus study
Hi there
Ok how do you do it?
I am so far behind already and have essays due etc.
I am thinking of dropping back to just one or 2 subjects just to keep things ticking over (mostly my BRAIN!!)
I have a very active 1 year old ( one on sat!!) and a small house so i find it hard sometimes to find space and time to get into the books.
Evenigns i am so tired i feel like veging in front of tv or spending time with DH so study is not getting much of a look in.
Just wanting to know how you set yourself up and what you do to make it possible to actually get time to study and time for you.
Tips appreciated! Thanks!

I have a 10month old. I usually study when he sleeps and clean when he's awake. I hit the books as soon as his head its the pillow. If I have an important assessment due then I usually ask my mum/dad (I'm a single parent) if they can take him for a few hours (usually for a walk) while I cram a bit of study in. Maybe you could ask DH to take him to the park or something?
Hi Lisa! I'm not as brave as you and have only taken on one subject for my return to study after a semester off. I have a 6mth old daughter and understand about little time during the day and feeling tired at night.
The only way I'm coping is actually putting in some minutes (she never sleeps long) during the day and evening when she's asleep. I'm hoping to take a day out each week and go to my mum's and study there so mum can occupy her (I have a laptop so that helps).
Perhaps you should only attempt one subject??
Thanks heaps everyone. I think i need to set a list of readings etc to get through each week - i think its a good idea that way you can see how you have progressed and thats always encouraging.
I think one subject is the goer this sem also. i dont want to get so stressed that i am no use to Isaac!
what are you all studying?
I am doing a BA to lead into BTeach. so studying american history this semester.

You've got me totally scared now lol. :p
I'm applying to enrol in 3 subjects semester 1 next year by correspondence to complete my degree. By then DS will be a year old and now I'm not so sure he's going to be good for mummy while she's studying *eek*.
May have to do most study at night or weekends when Daddy's home.
Hi aijent,
I am also studying "Anatomy and Physiology of The Human Body I start at the end of August. How are you finding it? My plan is to also get into B of nursing so :fingerscrossed: for both of us
Another hint I use is to only read for the assignments if you are doing a subject in which there are no exams. That way you aren't wasting time reading "all" the readings when you only need to read the ones for the assignment topics.
Bummer though if you do have exams as it means having to read and remember lots of stuff!
Im studying my Diploma of Marketing through OTEN
dont worry, im struggling at the moment to do mine too.
I dont get alot of time as im a sole parent too, work 3 days a week and dont really have anyone to look after dd. I really try to do it in the evenings, but alot of the time i just cant concentrate/focus and end up putting it down, too tired.
The only place where i actually get some done, is by sneaking it in at work when its quiet or the boss is busy or not there.
Im finding it difficult to get my second assignment completed. But.......my mum will be back here in about 3 weeks :smiliedance: :yelclap: after not having her around for 1 1/2 years (traveling), so she will be able to mind dd so i can do some study. YAY :smiliedance: I so want to get these modules done and over with and move on to the next.

Hi there
Just touching base to see how everyone is going with their mummying and studying??
I have gone to one unit and doing ok - got a really good mark for first essay so that helps take the pressure off for exam!!
I am pregnant again now though so not sure what this means for the rest of my 2 degrees!!!

wow good on you . congrats on your pregnancy!!
Im doing 5 subjects at the moment in my degree!! yea i know FIVE but i just want to finish my study...get it over with yknow.
I wanted to try and do all my classes after 6pm or on my partners days off but unfortunatley it didnt really work like that. I have put my daughter in daycare 2 days a week (something i didnt want to do) for the sake of my study and finishing it. im fine with it now , coz those days are very much needed for me to write up my essays get notes and go to campus. etc. IThey are loong days tho. about 8am to 6:30 pm but I have only got a semester or 2 to go!!! yay.
I have even knocked off some subjects by enrolling into a summer semester which is off campus study over the xmas hols. Other than that, sometimes my mum and partners step mum will come over and take my daughter for a while if i have to go in to campus. I think off campus study is a great idea for people with other commitments or that live too far fromcampus. However my uni doesnt supply very interesting off campus subjects. Oh apart from ones wih LOTs of readings....
