Hi
I'm 15 weeks pregnant and am trying to decide which hospital to go to. My ob delivers in both Ashford and Burnside hospital and suggests that I go to Burnside because it's closer to where I live, however, I heard good things about Ashford and mix messages about Burnside. So I'm not sure which one to go to. Could anyone tell me your experience in either of these hospitals?
Thanks.

i was born at ashford and my mum says good things about it having had 3 of her 4 births there :) you're under private care yeah? its a great hospital with a great approach from all i have heard
I had DS at Burnside. Good experience and happy with care.
My sister had both her DS's at Ashford (her second just last week) and she has been happy with Ashford botht times. Ashford have the early discharge program where you can go to the Hilton for 2 nights as well.
From my experience ashford is a bit busier than burnside (have worked at both) and there is a significant chance of ending up in another ward other than postnatal as they are full. You will still be cared for by midwives but you wont have same facilities close by (nursery, family rooms etc). This at times happens at Burnside too though.
For me id chose closer to home (being in the car in labour is not fun believe me !).
Goodluck with your decision.
PS you will hear bad stories from people on both hospitals as its such a personal experience....

Thanks Ba1977 for your reply. :yelclap:We went to Burnside Hospital to have a look around last weekend and the midwife who showed us around was very friendly which was a good sign. The big rooms looked really nice (smaller rooms were also good) and all rooms had a courtyard which i really liked.
Recently I realised that I might need to go to the hospital during rush hours and I might be stuck in the traffic for an hour if not longer... I'm glad that your advice is consistent with my ob's. Thank you so much!
when did you deliver your baby at burnside?

Thank you Mummykitty. I heard good things about Ashford too. It's apparently a very good hospital, but i think i'll go to Burnside simply because it's closer to home.
I delivered at Ashford last year and was very impressed. We also went to the hilton. I live an hour away up the freeway and didn't have any issues being too far away. I guess it is purely personal choice at the end of it though. Good luck with everything

I have had my two children at Burnside and a lot of my family and friends have had their children there too. I can't fault it, the midwives were lovely and caring. I had a positive experience both times. Burnside also offer the early leave to go to the Hyatt, I have heard lots of good things about that too.
Good luck. :)

Thank you girls for your feedback! Now I feel very confident about going to Burnside Hospital.

I had both of my babies at Burnside - and was lucky enough to get the big rooms with a courtyard both times. I had my babies in Jan 07 and Jan 09 and was very impressed with the hospital both times.
The midwives were supportive and helpful as a first time mum and were always willing to guide me. As a second time Mum they did leave me alone a little bit more but were always there I needed a hand.
Could not recommend it more - We live 45 minutes away but if we were going to have #3 I would definitely be going back :)

I delivered at Burnside 5 months ago (Nov 2009) and could not fault it. The midwives were brilliant - very friendly, helpful and the care and advice they gave was so consistent regardless of who you saw. Also, the rooms are lovely (we were lucky enough to have one of the large family rooms). I had a normal delivery and went to the Hyatt (now called the Intercontinental) on day 3. It was fantastic! Chauffeured in a large black BMW (hubby followed in car - and hotel had free valet parking for him). Even better room than the hospital, excellent food (most meals were so large they were enough for hubby and I to share), and a very attentive midwife. One great thing about the food was you could order your meals at times convenient to you rather than having hospital meals at set times (I hate 5.30pm dinners!)
At the hotel you get senior midwives who are on 12 hour shifts and walk around the floor with a mobile phone. They are on call at all times and we found that we got more one on one attention and personalised care at the hotel than at the hospital. It was a great experience for a first time mum who was having some breastfeeding problems! Also, the floor you are on is lovely. It is like being in a resort with a little rotunda type thing in the middle and green foliage everywhere. Very peaceful.
Thoroughly recommend Burnisde Hospital and their hotel option. We plan to have #2 and #3 there.
