View Full Version : Bottles in dishwasher?
I have a friend who puts her bottles in the dishwasher, but I have previously heard that this is a big no-no. Is it? Does anyone else use the dishwasher?
I have been hand-washing all of the bottles and it gets pretty tedious at times, particularly when everything else just gets dumped in the dishwasher.
I was told you COULD wash them in the dishwasher. I don't see why not, our dishwasher goes up to 65 degrees.
We also run a pub and the rules in regards to washing glassware is that it has to be washed at 65 degrees so I'm sure it would be fine to wash baby bottles in.

My dishwasher has a hygiene rinse that it does after the normal wash, especially for bottles, so I put them in there. Then I sterilize them after :).

i used to wash mine on the Top shelf , the BPA free ones are the best to put in there :)
I used to rinse with hot water an then put hot water in them till was time to wash them.
On the childrens wards I worked on we used to wash by hand then put in the sterilising soloution ,now we put them in the dishwasher and then into the fridge in a container for use.
I put my bottles in but still wash tops by hand.

if the dishwasher was not safe for bottles then why would it be safe for everything else
not to put them in simply makes no sense

All bottle parts go in the dishwasher here. I personally dont have the time to stand there & wash 25 bottles each day.

I put bottles in the dishwasher but find it leaves a filmy sort of feel to the teats so hand wash those.

I found that too when they went in with other things like cups & plates.
They now go in on their own.

I was told that they can move around easily in the dishwasher and consequently don't get cleaned properly, or pools of soapy water gather in the teat/bottle. And also if they contain BPA, there is a risk of it leeching at such high heat.

We put our bottles in the dishwasher. There was a fact sheet on one of the children's hospital websites I think that says it ok as long as the temp is over 65 degrees. We put all DD bottle parts (teats and things) in a basket thing made for that stuff so they dont move around.

I used to put all of mine in the dishwasher. They were the cleanest I'd ever seen and this was my third baby with bottles. I never had to then sterilise them.
I found they got all the gunk out of the bottom that I always had trouble getting too when I used the steriliser (for the two older girls bottles at the time they used them).
Never had a problem and never had any of the bottles or teats melt on me.

All ours went in the dishwasher. I bought a basket from toys r us to hold the teats and tops. Once they were dry they went into a clean container. So easy.
You might find that the measurements may wash off the sides faster in the dishwasher - our bottles started to fade, but by then DD2 was on cows milk so it didnt matter.
