spinal fluid

I'm not sure of anyone can help me out with this query - but thought I would post it anyway. We are still having tests concerning my little fellows head circumference. The paeditrician sent us to neurologist who has ordered some blood tests and then wants to perhaps take some spinal fluid. Does anyone know what they would be testing for to want to take this??
