Hi All,
My 2 week old DS is feeding every 1-2 hours he is FF and is on 120mls to 180mls depending on how hungry he is. He is a big boy nearly 11 pounds. A few people have told me that he should be waking for a feed every 3.5 to 4 hours at a time. He hasnt been a very good sleeper either.
We had quite a number of vistors over on the weekend and im not sure if that is the cause as he has been wanting bottles every 1-2 hours since they have came and left and now he expects it still.. He use to have his last feed of a night at 10.30 then be up at 4am but now its every 1-2 hours which is starting to wear me and df out.
Anyone know how to get him back to how he was ( eating every 3.5 to 4 hours and sleeping for that long period of time again.)
Thanks

Hi there,
I noticed you said he's not that great a sleeper - maybe he is just tired and needs to be resettled or put to sleep at that 1-2 hour mark rather than being fed. They sleep so much at that age and the differnet cries are hard to recognise. I remember feeding my little one every 2 hours when I got home from the hospital and my OB suggested trying to offer a dummy at that 1-2 hour mark - if they spit it out and continue crying maybe he is hungry, if not he may have just needed settling.
?? Sorry probably not much help there.

+Hi there thats fine.
We have tried the w+hole putting the dummy back it and it works for about 10 mins then he will start to cry again so we try and give him the dummy but just spits it straight back out so we give him a bottle and then he is fine after that. Also he wants to be held all the time which im not making that mistake again i use to hold dd all the time when she was a newborn and she was hard to get down to sleep..

My DD was a hungry FF bub. In fact her weight was starting to be an issue cause of all the formula. My doc suggested the following:
Try to stretch the time only by 15 mins every couple of days. A walk in the pram or a cuddle etc just to prolong it a bit.
Try a "heavier" formula - like SMA or Sweetdreams (I think Novolac do it)..... we used SMA - it takes longer to digest in their tummies.
We also tried the dummy to no avail.....
Good luck.

Hi mummy2lilly - could your DS be going through a wonder week?? I think it's pretty normal for big growth spurts during the first few weeks, which may explain why he is hungry all the time.
Hope it sorts out for you :D

Hi Ladies thanks for your replies,
We would change his milk but he needs to be on soy as he cant hold down any other milks as he just brings up the hole bottle. Im thinking maybe upping his bottles by 10mls or something.
Also i didnt think he could be going through a growth spurt may explain why he is growing out of his 0000 so fast so he could be going through a growth spurt.
thanks again ladies.
