my ds recently had his first encounter with toothpaste during teeth cleaning time and broke out in eczema :( the only other thing that triggers his eczema is strawberries. anyway, it was the colgate my first toothpaste (something with a name like that lol) and he broke out in eczema within 30 mins but wasnt ill.
i was just wondering if there is another toothpaste i could try that might not affect him.
before this i just used water and his toothbrush to clean his teeth.
Did you use the special toddler toothpaste? It is much lower in fluoride. My dentist said to use it (the tiniest bit) so my ds gets used to the taste. My ds gets eczema with some other things but is okay with the toddler paste.
If it was the toddler paste you used then I would be using just water - but can't you ring your dentist and just ask for advice? I am sure your ds can't be the only baby to have had this problem.

I don't know anything about eczema...but my DD uses Macleans "Milk Teeth" toothpaste. No idea as to whether it'll work better or not...but you might as well try.
Maybe you can go to the section where everyone talks about eczema and other conditions (sorry, I forget what that section is called...:o ) and ask them what works for their kids?

is macleans milk teeth very different from the colgate toothpaste?
Also check that the toothpaste doesn't contain artificial sweeteners, which most kids toothpastes do.
Along with the artificial everything else in it. Maybe it's additives and preservatives that are causing the problem?

Try a toothpaste with no Soldium Laureth Sulphate in it, along with no artificial sweetners and synthetic colours and flavours. Snappy Jaws is a good one for kids, or pretty much any chemical free toothpaste from the health food shop. It makes me sick that mainstream kids toothpastes still contain SLS, propylene glycol and other yuck.
