DS new favourite skill is getting up onto his knees and elbows with everything else lifted off the floor... he hasnt figured out how to move from that position yet tho...

How long from this until he starts crawling? What was your experience of your child starting to move?

My house is so not child safe yet and i didn't expect it would need to be anytime soon as DS is only 4 months 2 days old...

My DS is 9 months old now and he only learnt to start crawling at 8 months. So I don't know, time will tell! My advice be prepared! lol. Start baby-proofing now.

It took him about a month, started off as getting on all fours, lifting his bum up, then comando and finally crawling properly. Yep start baby proofing, they won't tell you when they're gonna move!

ds was 5 weeks frrom push ups to crawling, just got up and went one day!

but in saying that they are all so different! 4 months is early, ds started crawling at 6 months and everyone commented on how early he was

I think for Jasper, from hands and knees, he started rocking back and forth next, and then doing weird yoga moves, lifting left arm and right leg, putting them down, then left leg and right arm, and putting them down, but not going anywhere

I can't remember how long the transition was, but he was very very very VERY mobile boy and crawled at 6 months, he was 'scooting' on his back like an upside down caterpillar from about 5 months though!

My ds commando crawled (dragged himself along the floor) for 7 weeks before really crawling (which he did at 9 1/2 months). He was rocking on his knees & hands for quite a while before really crawling.

DD was crawling at 5 months. It took her about two weeks I think to go from getting up to rocking to commando to crawling.

It's hard when they crawl so early because they are still just little babies with no sense of danger! Still, they learn fast if you can teach them. She had the stairs sorted by 6 months. This was all before she could sit up on her own!

DD did the rocking thing for a couple of months. She never commando crawled just went straight to normal crawl she was about 7 1/2 months when she crawled.

I would say it could be any time from now, really.

My son did the commando, catterpillar, rap style crawling, for ages, and has only really started hand and knee crawling recently.

But his new fav game is standing up, and travelling around the furniture.

They can take off from any time, they are ready to go.

Have fun. I am sure you will baby proof as you go, and realise what bub can get into. They always get something you haven't thought of.
