View Full Version : First Outing Tomorrow - what do I take her in? Sorry this is a dumb q..
Hi Girls
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question. I am a first time Mum and am attending my first mother's group at the hospital I gave birth in tomorrow.
I am a bit nervous as it goes for 2 hours and my hubby is going to pick me up afterwards. My question is - what do I take my 2.5week daughter in? Of course she will be travelling in her capsule so should I just carry her in in that and then hold her during the group or would i be better off taking the pram? I dont have a baby sling but I think I may have to get one of them in the near future.
I dont know if taking her in the capsule is a good idea as everyone says they are not designed for that and are only for transporting the baby. I dont want to be weighed down with the pram either esp if everyone else just brings there bubba in the capsule. Arrggh. What do I do? I dont want to look stupid
Thanks for reading
Kate
Oh Kate - you sweetie :hugs:
With the Capsule - would depend how far you have to walk with it and if you think bub will go to sleep in it? It would be quite okay to use it and no one would think you silly if you did - but they are a bit awkward to carry for any distance.
Is your stroller easy to use? It might be easier and then you have the option of "rocking" her in it if you need to.
A sling or wrap is a good idea - but I always liked to be able to have a hot cuppa - so never comfy keeping in that whilst drinking a hot drink.
Another good idea is to take a blanket or something to put on the floor and wrap her and lie her on the floor and sit down with her. Depends on the type of room though - if it's carpet and soft enough for you to sit on comfortably really!
When my 1st one was that old and for several months I went to a group and used to lie her down on my roll out change mat from my nappy bag - it was / is quite padded adn I'd just put a nice blanket over it and sit down on floor with her.........then you dont have to cart too much around, as you're taking that bag anyway!
Don't forget to take extra changes of clothing + singlet and spare wrap......babies seem to have a habit of doing a big poo that leaks everywhere as soon as you are out!!
Really - whatever you are most comfortable with - I'm sure no one will judge you harshly on what you choose to do. Enjoy the group - they'll all be as nervous as you

At the first meeting of our mother's group we all had them in prams because they ended up sleeping during the meeting - some of us held our babies during intorductions etc but then we put them in the prams when they fell asleep. As they get older we brought in a blanket so they could lie on the floor.... but most of the times we brought in our prams.
Hope this helps and have fun! I love mother's group!! :yelclap:

aww what a lovely mummy you are !!!!:hugs:
nobody who is a nice new mum is going to be the least little bit judgemental about what your choice is.
one of the mums at my playgroup uses the capsule for her DS. he's warm and cosy and she doesnt have to keep moving him around too much if he goes to sleep (which he usually does). it takes up less room than the pram too, so if it's a small room, i'd take that.
but it's totally up to you. you're the mum, you decide what's best for your littlie.anybody who would dare criticise can just put up and shut up.

I agree with the others. Its your baby so you do whatever you think is best. No-one will judge you or think you are irresponsible.
My tip would be that if you are breastfeeding, make sure you take a spare top because nothing will make you feel more embarassed and uncomfortable than being the only woman in the room with booby milk circles.

A friend of mine has been out with her little one on several occasions with us, and each time she has just carried her little bub. Although I guess she new that we would all just hold him all night anyway.
Awww, don't worry! :hugs:
No-one will think your stupid! I would take the pram, that's what I do! :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Do what you think is best and easiest for both you and bub. I take the pram almost everywhere I go. You can put your bub in it when she sleeps. You can also put your nappy bag, extra blanket, snacks...etc. under the pram. It's very convenient. :)
at the mother groups i have been to we have all taken prams/strollers
Thats really cute!:hugs:
I would take the sling, but keep in mind, if you have had stitches it might be painful. I made that mistake with the sling!
