Ok, so just after a little advice here ladies. I was all set for my big shopping weekend, had decided to purchase the Safe N Sound Meridian Convertible car seat when my SIL kindly offered us the use of a baby capsule (suitable up to 6 months). We have decided to take her up on this offer so now I am confused as to what type of car seat I should use after this?

I have had a quick look about but would really love some advice from those who have been there and done it :D

TIA

Hi,
Most car seats today go from birth to toddler anyway, so i dont think it will really matter. I didn't bother with the capsule with my last three as my first son was only in it for 2 & 1/2 mths before he was to big for it.

Hope that helps

We had a capsule and then we bought a forward facing seat that does up to 26 kg. It is a Safe n Sound Maxiride. We looked at the seats that you can have from birth and then turn around and they seemed to only take up to 18kg anyway.

I loved using the capsule for the little baby and they are recommended for use to about six months. It depends on the length of the baby how long you leave you little one in it. But the seats and info I have looked at don't recommend forward facing until they are 8-9 kg after 6 months. Some of my Mothers' group didn't turn their seats around til 9 months. When looking seek professional advice from a babyshop - you can always then decide to buy somewhere else if it is cheaper. Target and Kmart don't give you that help - I find speaking to the babyshop staff is always helpful because they point out all the little features and differences between each one.

even if you buy the convertible seat you will still get a heap of use out of it. my son is 17 months now and 12.5kg and now forward-facing. They usually have a bit of removable padding you can take out when they fill the seat out a bit better and we haven't even taken that out of ours yet!

The Meridian is very swanky - I think you will be pleased with it and will still get your money's worth especially if you have more kiddies.

I've got a capsule and maxiriders. For long term use I think the maxirider is the best and best value.

Its suitable from 8 - 26kg. You use it with the 5 point harness like a normal carseat from 8 - 18kg and then just with the carseat belt and the antisubmarine clip from 18-26kg at which time they're big enough for the normal seat and aged around 7/8 years.

Its got nifty little things like arm rests and drink holders too!

We hired a capsule but DS only stayed in it for about 4 months as he was quite long. He wasn't ready to be forward facing so we bought the Meridian (which is great!) which we've since turned around. I've heard it's really common for babies to outgrow the capsules before 6 months so it's probably an idea to get a convertible seat anyway. For us we also considered that we would like to have another baby next year  so will use the Meridian for the new bub and probably get something like the maxi rider for DS then.

 Thanks for your responses ladies. I have decided that I will use the Unity capsule and worry about a car seat when bubs outgrows the capsule. Seeing bubs isn't due until Dec and will prob last in the capsule for a few months not much point in booking one up now. Also they might have so new models on the market by then
